I didn’t realize how bad I had started limping. I quit college soccer in Sept when someone told me to “quit faking it” - I was heartbroken that someone thought I was faking my pain.
I kept working out and lifting weights…hoping to work through it.
The long & short I found out I was missing 90% of my femoral neck. They assumed it was cancer.
They wanted me to have surgery the following Monday - I didn’t want to miss classes and get a year behind in college, so I agreed to having the surgery during my ten day Christmas break 🤷♀️
It was a very long surgery, and I ended up not having cancer. My bone grew back eventually.
I had to ask all over the country to find a surgeon willing to remove my implant. No one wanted to do it.
I finally asked the guy who I coached soccer with when I was a teenager. He had performed my three shoulder surgeries.
He agreed to remove my implant when no one else would.
Persistence is often needed at a level that makes many people shut down. It sucks and I wish it wasn’t this way.
