The pulsing green light made everything in the garish, surreal; she stood with her back to it, her shadow filling the chamber. "So.", she purred, "You've come willingly to my lair." She plucked a rope like a strand, causing her suspended prisoner to bounce, adding to the dance of shadows. "Why?"
"I just...I can't do this fighting anymore." The soft tone caught Kara's attention. She stepped back, taking in her prisoner's situation. She had the woman completely bound, lifted off the ground and hanging in the tangle of black ropes strung like a complex web around the room. Only Kara knew the path through them, she had sat back and watched Jahni entangle herself coming in the room, and it had amused her, but now the situation seemed different. Kara twisted the whip in her hands, and walked back and forth before Jahni , her spiked heels clacking loudly on the stones. "What kind of trick is this, Jahni ? What game are you playing?"
"It's not a game."
"I haven't heard from you in months, and then you walk in to my lair, the deepest secret part of my tower, and tell me you're no longer my enemy? You expect me to believe that?" Kara used the handle of the whip to lift Jahni 's face, to see the truth in her nemesis' eyes.
"I don't think you'll believe me, not at first, no." Jahni 's voice was soft and seemingly a little sad. "But I was gone for months because I had to get away from this thing between us. Really think. And I did. I realized something very important." Jahni wouldn't look at her.
"And what is that?" Kara leaned down, a soft smile on her dark lips, curious how the woman planned to mess with her this time.
"I-...." Jahni had difficulty with the words, mumbling at first, then closing her eyes she sighed. "I'm in love with you. And I think you love me too."
Kara stumbled backward, nearly tripping over one of the ropes behind her. She grabbed one to hold herself upright with, and paused to compose herself.
"That's a cruel tactic, Jahni, you who claim to love the light and care for people, to say such things to me..." Kara couldn't keep the pain out of her voice.
"It's not a tactic. You have a truth spell, you've used it on me before, I won't resist, try it again."
Kara tossed the whip to the floor with a clatter and wove the spell before her, muttering the incantation, her black eyes glowing purple with magical light. She watched the tendrils of magic spin around Jahni 's head, ensuring the spell had taken.
"Speak your truth, then." Kara crossed her arms defiantly.
Jahni sighed, her muscles tightening as she instinctively tried to resist the spell's compulsion, but found she could not and the words came spilling out.
"I know things started out badly, we were so petty, all that silly bickering in the academy, and then when we tried to work at that potions shop we just were on each other's toes all the time, except for the good days. And that's what got me, the good days." She adjusted a little in the bonds, looking up finally, meeting Kara's eyes with her own. "I kept thinking about them. Even in my tower, so long after, both of us trying to outdo the other, competing for the same spell components, the same rare recipes, weren't we just making excuses to be together? Didn't we really just need to be with each other, and both of us were just too stubborn and stupid and pride-filled to admit it? All the mean things I've ever said about you...I realized it's all things I admire about you. I can't believe I've been so awful to you, like you said...I've always tried to be good but when it came to you, I was cruel."
Kara's eyes were wet, but she barely noticed with the pounding of her heart. Was it real? Was she actually hearing the words she'd been dreaming of hearing for so long? She pulled herself upright, the corset suddenly feeling entirely too tight. She tugged at the ribbons to loosen it with one hand, the other clinging to on one of the silky black ropes. Her hands shook and she couldn't seem to get the knot undone. "Damn you, Jahni." She hissed, hearing the intake of breath from the other woman. "It wasn't supposed to be like this."
The comment silenced them both. Kara stood finally, trying to pull herself to her full height, draw on her elven elegance, but she shook as she approached, the ropes, attuned to their mistress' emotions, slackened, and Jahni was on her feet before Kara. They just watched each other for some time, not sure what to say or do.

Kara's voice was broken and quiet, barely audible.
"Gods, Kara. No. Fuck. I'm so sorry, I didn't understand, it's like we were speaking different languages and now we're on the same one. Please, look at me." Jahni took the silk-gloved hands in hers and kissed them. "You are incredible. Your brilliance, your skill with magic, I mean holy hells, look at this place." She gestured to the vaulted ceiling, the eerie green lighting, the tangled web. "It took me hours to break in here. You have traps I've never seen, genius, that one with the spider and the lightning, by the way, and I'll be honest I've always been jealous of how gorgeous you are. You're just...flawless. You're everything I've always wanted to be, and instead of loving that, I lashed out and it was wrong. Can you forgive me?" Jahni's voice cracked. "Is there any possible way you could love me?"
Kara's black eyes finally met Jahni's, and they both really, finally looked at each other. Kara pulled Jahni close, slowly and carefully, giving the other woman a chance to get away if she wanted to, but Jahni leaned in gratefully and wrapped her arms around Kara's waist. Slowly, they managed, awkwardly and with a few giggles, to kiss. When their lips finally met, both pulled each other close, their hands cautiously exploring each other. Kara's black robes swam happily around them, weaving in to beautiful patterns. The tips of Jahni's fingers produced small pink sparks, a warm glow seemed to come from inside the glittering robes she wore. They kissed for what felt like hours; years of wanting finally realized. Eventually, Kara pulled back, taking a breath, burying her face in Jahni's neck.
"I want to forget everything that happened before, silence all the voices in my head, and just be with you. Can we do that?" Her voice was so small and nervous Jahni barely heard it, though it was in her ear.
"I don't know how this is going to work, but I don't care, Kara. I want to be yours. We will find a way"
Kara kissed her neck, her hands sliding down Jahni's back. "You want to be mine?" A soft chuckle escaped her. "Oh my darling, you mean that? You know...how I am."
"I-I do. And I want it, even though I've never done it before, I want to. I couldn't trust anyone else. I don't want anyone else. I want to give myself to you, and to know what it feels like to be yours." Jahni wasn't sure if the truth spell was still working or if she'd finally just given up her inhibitions, but she'd thought long about it in her time abroad. "I've always been the hero, the leader, the one in charge, but with you, that's not what I want."
Kara stared her down, but Jahni didn't crack, she was open in her sincerity, apparently laying her heart bare before her. Kara felt her knees go weak and she pulled Jahni up again and kissed her passionately, surprising them both with her energy. The ropes in the room started to move again, slowly, sensually, gently sliding over both women, pulling them up in the air in the middle of the room, a magical light washing them both in cool greens.
