A quick comment before I watch the reaction : as a book reader, the movies did not disappoint me. I read the books before watching the movies (actually read the books back when they first came out), and most of the visuals in the movies correspond to what I had in mind, sometimes even enhanced. Sure, they skipped over some things that were interesting, but not too much that it would make the movies bad.
