I gotta admit, at first I had some doubts about Gear 5 but not because it’s goofy or cartoonish. What really threw me off was the whole idea of predestination. It felt like it took away from Luffy’s natural spontaneity. But then I realized he’s not some reincarnation of Nika or anything, he awakened the fruit because he’s the right person for it. His personality and strength just naturally line up with what the fruit represents. Luffy’s always been Luffy, and he always will be.

We're finally in the Tom and Jerry Piece xD, so glad you guys like gear 5, some people have a problem with it being too goofy. I absolutely love it though, it's so fun to look at, it's so special, and it fits Luffy's character so well with all the themes of pursuing freedom and stuff. I'm really glad that Oda didn't make Luffy's final form something edgy and badass, it's so refreshing to have something like gear 5, which can be so many things at once, including being a menace to his enemies, you can literally see something unhinged about this form. And the fights... They have so much potential and unpredictability, the animators can go fucking crazy animating gear 5 ridiculous moves also fun fact: Luffy's heart beats in the exact rhythm of the "Drums of Liberation", that's why he said that his heartbeat "sounds funny"

Sideeffect, all the "powerscalers" trying to powerscale the big 3 to Son Goku will have a easy way out now since Toriyama himself said multiple times that "toon/gag" characters are stronger then Goku (Arale splitting the planet by accident ect.) [3:00] Same it blew up so much, that it spoiled me to hilarious amounts, before I even got back into one piece through your channel. So it wasn't really a surprise. But seeing it unfold was still very intense, with the amazing drum BGM and this insane power up animation. Now let's see if it can live up to the hype. [14:35] Bruh. This isn't just rubber + God powerup - it's almost like reality bending, with the bouncy floor and all of THAT. Hax indeed. And then it get's all goofy, but there are absolutely terrifying moments like [17:49] I mean,even with spoiler I'm still like - what the heck is going on.

Just to emphasize, yes oda made g5 just as goofy in the Manga. Obviously some things more pronounced in the animation, like the bouncy floor. But e. G. the eye popping was 1to1 manga Regarding toons: yugioh taught as that they aren't all mighty/powerful. But as the elder said, "most ridiculous" :) (not most powerful)

Manga Luffy is also very goofy in Gear 5. Oda really created a unique power up and he knew that not all people would love this, but it is his story and his characters. All other Shonen MCs have such cool and edgy looking power ups and then there is Luffy...laughing is ass off while fighting someone. Truly my goat

Regarding your post-episode discussion, Sengoku has a Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Type, Model: Buddha. In terms of the art and production of Gear 5, I'm pretty sure everyone who read the manga LOVED how the abilities are portrayed. Oda designed Gear 5 to be as goofy as possible, but powerful at the same time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember hearing that Toei partnered with Warner Bros to do these episodes. The only people who might have been a little dissatisfied are some anime-only watchers, but they all come around eventually.
