If she just wants to do it to imitate Oden, that'd be a shallow reason, and Luffy won't allow that. BUT, she wants freedom, and Luffy gets that.

I always follow the logic of, if a character wants to be addressed as he/him, she/her, or they/them, just go with it, regardless how they look. It just feels wrong to say anything else, in my opinion. Though, there are a lot of people in the One Piece community who will argue Yamato is pretending to be a man, or isn't 100% trans, and insist he is a she, because of the Vivre Card--despite it also saying Kiku is male, too, despite being a woman at heart. Regardless... just do whatever, honestly.

i believe the majority of the community addresses Yamato as he/him, but i don't think there's a right or wrong, as Yamato identifies as a man purely because they identify as oden.

Yamato called herself his son even before the whole Kozuki Oden stuff, I’m pretty sure. Kaido is just a dick - he wanted a son, not a daughter, because he probably believed that men are stronger than women, so he raised her as a man. That’s why he called her "son," I believe.

I think either read for Yamato's gender is fine. But it is pretty funny that Kaido beat Yamato up for proclaiming to (want to) be Oden, but continues to respect his wishes and calls him son. Personally, I know a trans dude who idolised and imitated famous men before realizing the stuff about himself, and he definitely saw himself in the way Yamato speaks about Oden. And I kinda like that interpretation. Also, hot is hot, regardless of gender. But either way, Yamato should definitely be buffer than how they are portrayed. Such strength and that massive club should come with much bigger arms :D

You can watch one of the One Piece openings now. There are actually two versions of it, but the first version is alright to watch. Just watch the Opening for any episode from 957-975. The second version of the opening can be watched starting with episode 993. Just keep in mind that it always has clips from the current episode so be sure to watch an opening from an episode you already watched.

Yamato is basically roleplaying as oden, she still is a female but tries to stay in character as oden since he is someone she admires a lot. Oda himself even confirmed that shes 100% a woman through vivre cards and manga covers and some of the LGBTQ community on twitter didn't want to accept that and got pissed and gave him death threats lol.
