Never wrong to rewatch one of the best shows of all time. Again, you would LOVE Kill la Kill :D Seeing the final part of the fight, I wonder if the fight between Mahito and Mechamaru in JJK is influenced by this. The anime changed a lot of shots to reference Evangelion, but that bit at the end where Mahito breaks through Mechamarus final attack and kills him? That looked exactly like Simon breaking through the final anti-drill.

The gurren lagann reactions are also the main reason I started following the channel. Just found it on pure chance and have been following ever since. The final fight addition is so great. One of my all time favorite anime ever. I will never tire of it.
