My head canon is that since the Tamate Box was in the Ryugu Kingdom, under the water, the explosives would have to be crazy strong to have an impact under water. However, since they were brought above the surface, in the dry air, the explosion was much bigger than it would’ve been under water. Instead of a small bomb, it was more like a bunch of missiles.

I think it's totally fine to laugh as much as you do during this arc. The great thing about One Piece is there is almost always so much to laugh about, that the really serious and sad moments hit so much harder and kind of sear themselves into your brain forever.
