I really like how this episode handle's Soos' dad. I think a lot of different shows would create a scenario where, actually, his dad loved him all this time and wanted to come but he had a good, more important reason why he couldn't and then all is forgiven. But no, here there are no excuses, neither by the show nor by Soos or his grandma. They are hurt and angry, righfully so. Sometimes people don't deserve second chances, let alone eighteen to show up to a birthday.

While I personally don't like the Time Cop episodes, I really like this one 'cause of Soos. It is sadly relatable with how many absent fathers there are out there in the world, which I think is worse for Soos as the man kept *promising* he'd come back and then disappoint him every year on his birthday... That's rough, especially for a kid so young.
