Im really glad that you guys seemed to enjoy this episode 1 so much. I also really hope that you guys decide to keep watching this since it’s not too long and it’s currently airing. Also another show this season that has a great first episode and is also probably the most popular right now is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I’d suggest giving that an episode or two to see if you might want to watch it. Edit: if anyone in GOAT tier is watching Frieren, might you kindly suggest it as an option for the next GOAT tier reaction? Was literally going to join GOAT tier to do that but they’re all sold out.

the reason Chinese people thought whiter skin was more beautiful and was of higher status was because it meant that the person didn't do any outside work like farming and whatnot. Not doing brute physical labor probably meant you were indoors most of the time, so you probably were educated, from a wealthier family etc. This was true for men and women.

Yep, this is based of the Chinese harem system. There's typically an empress who is considered the official wife of the emperor followed by concubines of various titles. The rear palace is where all the women and there servants live, most not leaving until death. It's lead in the makeup that is causing the illness. Lead was commonly used in makeup for its intense whitening effects. As you mentioned, white skin was associated with beauty and many cosmetic products were created in an attempt to achieve or maintain lighter complexions.

i believe apothecary diaries is one of the big animes coming out right now. it has such good animation, great characters, and great story. Maomao is definitely imo one of the best girls of 2023. The story just gets better and better with each episode, there is suppose to be 24 episodes.
