Pretty sure they never actually seen Hisoka's nen ("powers") they only saw the physical effects of hisokas nen. E.g. they didnt see his bungee gum until after they trained, but they could see the effect i.e. controlling the cards. They couldn't see the nen making the cards super sharp and hard, but they could see the effect of it. List goes on. What NEN of hisokas did they see before learning about nen? Dragon dive is literally visible nen. How could killua see it? Just as kurapika originally couldn't see the nen when he was looking for the job, until he learned how. It goes from Killua knowing nothing of nen, to him recognising powerful nen attacks. That's the plothole he is referring to. Trevors explanation is the only possible explanation.

People saw Hisoka's powers without knowing it was nen. It's not a plothole lol.

I'd say he just put 2 and 2 together. He had probably seen grandpa use an ability he cant see called Dragon Dive that puts holes everywhere. After learning Nen, I'm pretty sure he could tell who it was by the aura, i'd say it isn't that much of a plot hole but it also doesn't really explain it. It just hopes you infer it.
