Remember that Meruem gets stronger when he eats, so it makes sense that he got so much power from consuming Pouf and Youpi, the pinnacle of Ants after the King. Also he said he couldn’t eat anything else because they had so much Nen. Similar to when he first ate a nen user, and couldn’t eat regular humans

I also hate Pouf, but he is an amazing character. He, Pitou and Meruem are all amazingly well-written, even if I only genuinely like Meruem and kind of like Pitou. Youpi is cool, too, I guess.
