To be clear this wouldn't impact Boruto at all, would just replace the hxh series for however long the movie lasts for

Do it after the series. I would however recommend you watch the first episode of hunter x hunter from 1999. For the next arc after greed island it will help world build. They cut something important that was not in the 2011 version of hunter x hunter. Don’t want to spoil but their is a new character that they introduced but did not in in the first episode of 2011. Sorry for the long text lol.
