DoorMan #115
Stark Residence, Malibu [May 2008]
–Colin Baxter–
He floated in front of the front door, seeing Obadian Stane walk into Tony’s house with a smile plastered on his face. Tony’s face mirrored that smile as well, albeit a strained one. Well, Stane did try to oust Tony from his own company, so that was expected.
Now, what to do here?
Well, the obvious choice would be to wait for Stane to attack Tony, make sure that it was all recorded before swooping in to save Tony. The thing was that he did not have the authority to arrest Stane.
But he knew just someone who did and was also probably in the vicinity, investigating everything.
The number he had for Coulson flashed in his mind as he flipped out a burner phone, he kept several dozen on hand, dialed the number and waited for Agent Coulson to pick it up.
The call was picked up after a short while and Coulson, being the paranoid agent that he was, instantly demanded an answer to, “Who is this?”
He spoke through the many layers of voice modulation through his onesie, “Is this Agent Coulson? I know you are investigating a case involving Tony Stark and are near his company’s HQ. A situation has arisen at his Malibu residence, involving Stane, whom I assume you know as a person of interest?”
He heard shuffling noises in the background as Coulson spoke, “Do you have any evidence of this? Why should we believe you?” He grinned as he heard the man speed walking and then a car door closing.
“Well, might as well give you a little tip. I suppose you have already seen some of my actions, in Gulmirah?” There was a sharp intake of air on the other side as Coulson mumbled, “You’re Mysterio?”
“Bingo! Now, see you there, Agent!” With that, he hung up the call, crushed the phone and deposited in the hammerspace of the orange inside. It was small but enough to hold a couple of phones, and a change of clothes if he needed one.
He used to just roam around with nothing on his person because he did not need anything in particular, and if he did, it was just a quick portal away. Despite his lacklustre portal abilities, he could use them after a certain number of tries so getting stuff from either the Red Hearth or from his Earthen bachelor pad was not hard, not at all.
Now, it was a bit more complex since he did not want to rely on Jin’Ya all the time, hence the small pocket space. Also, it was a great way to practice his enchantment because creating an anchored expanded space was one thing but creating a pocket space that was always moving, not to mention weaving it into an existing enchanted object? It was tough and he kind of liked it.
If there was not a crisis brewing around the corner all the time, he could totally see himself becoming a tinker of magical enchantments, just creating stuff for the heroes of the planet, so the good side always won.
It was something he could still do, once the dust settled, whenever that is.
So, he floated there, cross legged, waiting and watching as Stane and Tony had a conversation over pizza that Stane bought. There was a trace of anger in Tony’s face as the conversation moved over to some tense matter, apparently.
Probably something to do with trying to oust Tony. He wondered why the hell Stane would do small talk, only to realise as he slowly turned around, to see an honest to god ninja of sorts just jump over the high compound walls, clad in all black. The darkness of the night and the dim lights around that area made the perfect cover for their activities in the dark but his eyes could see them easily.
A single person, stature indicated a male stature, fairly lean, holding on to a briefcase of sorts. Well, something interesting, he thought to himself, slowly floating towards them as well, watching in amusement as they advanced further into the compound, looking around furtively.
This was probably why Jarvis was unable to help Tony immediately. Some sort of localised EMP, then? Or a virus?
His thoughts were soon answered as the thief, as if knowing the exact plans for this place, found a rather large panel, hidden as a decoration in the garden. They also had a key for that, fantastic.
Tony would need a rather large reading on operational security once this was over because who in their right mind would decide to use a physical key as the only piece of security between your handy dandy AI who ran most of your life, and any would be intruder who wanted to attack you in your home.
A home that was very vulnerable, he realised. Well, another thing to lecture Tony on.
Letting the thief to his devices, he floated back to keep an eye on Tony, whilst maintaining a high enough vantage point to make sure that the thief did not flee from him. A well placed blow should be enough to incapacitate him and if not, then he could always hold both him and Stane until Coulson arrives.
The only worry he had about this whole situation was that Tony would never get to reveal himself to the world with that cocky smirk on his face, though, he knew enough about Tony’s narcissistic tendencies to realise that Tony would inevitably out himself as Iron Man, no matter the obstacle in the way. Of that, he was certain.
Keeping the camera steady, he waited and watched. There was barely a blip in power around him as the thief did what he had to do and began packing up his suitcase, after closing the hatch which was probably Jarvis’ way of interacting with the world.
He saw Stane relax immediately after that, as he began fishing something out from his pocket. He smiled at that, a flick of his hand, releasing multiple Air Doors, creating a small cube around the ninja, and then watched as the ninja was ragdolled through the door after multiple currents of high speed air were unleashed upon him.
He raised an eyebrow as the ninja, despite coughing blood, was still conscious, which was remarkable. Maybe the ninja was not a regular ninja then? A super soldier, perhaps? Or just plain old dumb human tenaciousness.
Either way, the ninja was in custody as he watched Tony turn around to fetch a drink, on Stane’s request perhaps, and then for Stane to take out a small black object from his coat. The glee on the man’s face was sickening as he pressed the button on that device, making Tony stiffen and then collapse on the ground, the empty glass in his hand shattering on impact.
He sighed as he realised the pain Tony was under and decided that it was enough evidence at this point, floating through the ceiling sized glass windows, shattering them on impact. He enjoyed the way Stane flinched and turned around, fishing for something else in his pockets, probably a gun?
Sadly, the obese middle aged man never got the chance to do anything as a hand made up of Dimensional Energy lashed out at him, grabbing him by the face. Another, much smaller one grabbed the black device and after fiddling for a second, pressed the only button on it, sighing in relief as the veins on Tony’s forehead began receding as the man all but collapsed on the ground, but not twitching in pain anymore.
“Now, then,” He grinned as he pulled Stane close, the man kicking his legs in the air, as his eyes widened in terror and fear, “Shall we get started?”
Then, a moment later, the man’s eyes rolled in the back of his skull and he fainted on the spot. “Uh,” he muttered a moment later, his hand punting Stane in the other direction since the man had pissed himself out of fear.
The sound of multiple cars harshly breaking broke him out of the slight disgust he felt at his hands holding onto someone who had pissed himself. Checking on Tony to make sure he was breathing fine, only knocked out, he turned around and sat down on a throne like chair built entirely of Dimensional Energy.
It was uncomfortable but that was not the point.
Presentation was important.
MegaMind was right in that regard.
