Toraiz Squid review + exclusive track download

After reviewing Pyramid, Deluge, Elektron sequencers and others, the bar for what a hardware sequencer needs to do is quite high, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Squid.
No, it's not the ultimate hardware sequencer, but Pioneer DJ/Toraiz have innovated on quite a few interesting fronts (14, yes, I counted them) with features that are either completely new in the hardware sequencing world, or major improvements on what's out there today.
Like I said, it's not perfect, with patterns limited to 64 steps (despite some interesting options that "break" the grid) and no pattern chaining/arranger, as well as a few other limitations I mention in the video.
Regardless, it's nice to see a company come out with so many innovations. Some of them are gimmicky, but some are extremely useful workflow enhancers.

You know that’s such a personal decision based on your needs. This can do more than Rene but is bigger; it has more bells and whistles than BSP but less outputs, less cc and the 4x4 grid is a different style of canvas with less features but more intuitive. Everything I know is in the video though so it’s really up to you

This has me thinking of replacing my Beatstep Pro and René V1 now. Do you think it would be an appropriate exchange for that against a barrage of semi-modular desktop machines?
Indeed! Even now it's fun, and I think if they give this some TLC it can be a category leader
Saw that one @Superbooth this year, and your video enforced the impression I got. I believe it's a curse and a blessing that it's the first sequencer they made. Not being wedged in between preconceptions and traditions allowed them to come up with fun unorthodox concepts, while some standard features and practical interface design issues completely eluded them. I hope they gonna listen to your suggestions for firmware updates (:
