Upcoming Asset Preview
🕑 Added 2023-08-08 18:46:23 +0000 UTCAs mentioned in a previous post, I am currently preparing the assets required for the inclusion of the next rival's Befriend/Betray stealth mission. The mission will take place in the middle of Buraza Town's commercial district. The player will walk across roads and sidewalks, and storefronts will mark the boundaries of the playable area.
But, if the player looks down a street, off into the distance beyond the playable area, what will they see? Obviously, they shouldn't be able to see out into "The Void," the massive black empty expanse that the environment is floating inside of. Their vision should be obscured by something that only exists to block their view so that they can't see outside of the playable environment and recognize that there is nothing but emptiness beyond the boundaries of the map.
So, to block the player's vision, these beautiful storefronts have been created. God, they look so good, I almost regret the fact that their purpose is to exist off in the distance where the player can't actually walk! I've decided to share them here, since it might be the closest view you'll ever get of them without using third-party tools to mod the game to enable a free-flying camera.
A variety of different storefronts will be created so that the player doesn't just see the same two buildings duplicated over and over every time they look down a street. (The current street scene in the game has that issue...you can see three "Odayaka Bakeries" even though only one should exist...)
It's already possible to load into the mission, walk through the target building, reach the target location, retrieve something, and walk out, so the mission is already "complete" in that sense, but it won't be truly complete until the mission-specific NPCs are done being modeled.
I'm really happy with the assets that are being created for this stealth mission, so the next few blog posts might all be related to it. I hope you'll look forward to seeing it come together!
