So, I've been pretty busy lately, haven't had much time to work on the game at all. And it's been making me depressed. It's been so long since the last build came out in fact, that whenever I think about the day it was uploaded, a voice over -cheap Morgan Freeman knock off, by the sound of it) starts narrating in my mind, talking about those good ol' days, and how young we all were back then.
And then, it happened. I started using Godot Engine, and I'm learning how to code! In fact, the first game I've ever coded -with our very own Akanoes as the protagonist- will be included in this month's Delux-o pack (It is a joke game, so don't expect anything anywhere near what Akanoes can do, but I'm somehow proud of it) I started writing the game design doc for an FPS horror/action game, got into voxels a bit, started turning some pixel art into 3d... you know, fun videogames stuff! The kind of stuff I always wanted to do whenever I though about making indie games.
Maybe all of this seems like getting distracted to some of you, but it's actually made me fall in love all over again with videogames. I have been feeling stuck for a while, only I didn't know I was because it was so gradual it felt normal... weird in retrospect. So I'm trying to force myself to work one day, when I see a random Godot tutorial on YouTube. Suddenly I'm joining courses, coding tutorials, looking interesting shit up, writing new game ideas, drawing, painting... and I can't stress enough how great it feels.
Anything cool I make, I'll share with you guys and gals, of course. And anything shitty as well, probably, if only for the laughs. I don't know how this will affect the next Ben X version release (though I've been feeling good about it lately), but this is precisely why I wanted a Patreon page for Newman, and not for Ben X. The promise to finish Ben X still stands, but I can't let the guilt for not being able to work on it make me waste the precious time I do have feeling shit about it! And now that I'm working on other stuff, I see a way of working I couldn't before. I haven't been using the freedom Patreon brings. I've been a dumb fuck, basically.
The thing now is to force myself to share ALL the stuff I do with you. Not just Ben X or Scooby. Not just wait until something is perfect before I show it to you guys! It doesn't have to be, it just has to be interesting. I need to be more open with you, because damn it, you deserve it, even if it's scary as fuck for me to do so. I owe you as much. And hopefully, this will not only make this Patreon page more interesting, but it will also help ease the feeling that I'm disappointing you guys. Two birds with one stone kind of thing.
I have been thinking about other ways to communicate with you guys. Been looking into podcasts... not sure if it's something there or I should just go on Twitch like Akanoes does, sometimes. Food for thought. I'll talk with you guys on Discord about it.
Aaaanyway. That's what's up. Trying to be a better version of my online self, get out of my shell, so to speak. Let me know what you think about all of this.
