There's a place in North Alabama that was supposed to be named Arad Alabama, after its founder. Someone messed up when they wrote the town charter and wrote down "Arab" (pronounced Ay-rahb up there). Legend was that someone misspelled it on the water tower first. Regardless, it was too expensive to change back then so the name stuck and Alabama cemented it's legacy as a place where folks can't spell.
