Imminent: Multithreaded Angrylion coming to Parallel N64!
🕑 Added 2017-10-29 05:21:44 +0000 UTC A new multithreaded-capable version of Angrylion (the software renderer) will be available soon in Parallel N64.* Expect a speed up of roughly 2x on Windows to 1.5x on macOS/Linux.
* Based on Angrylion Plus, but unlike that plugin, does not require OpenGL, and especially not core GL context 3.2.
* Will have a multitude of performance tweaks and optimizations courtesy of LegendDragoon.
Performance comparisons
Some speed comparisons which you can expect with threaded Angrylion:
Performance with the old Angrylion (tests are performed with Super Mario 64 on RA Windows 10):
64fps - VI overlay off - dynarec
52fps - VI overlay on - dynarec
63fps - VI overlay off - cached interpreter
52fps - VI overlay on - cached interpreter
Performance with the new multithreaded Angrylion (tests are performed with Super Mario 64 on RA Windows 10):
106fps - VI overlay on - cached interpreter
118fps - VI overlay off - cached interpreter
123fps - VI overlay off - dynarec
114fps - VI overlay on - dynarec
These tests were performed on a computer with an Intel i7 7700k processor.
If you have a decently capable PC, you will be able to play most N64 games at fullspeed and with accurate software emulation, even with VI filter enabled!
It should be noted that mudlord took it upon himself to port this to Parallel N64. He deserves big props for doing a lot of the heavylifting here. LegendOfDragoon's efforts are also much appreciated, and Brad Parker as well who has been spending a ton of time testing and debugging on this.
Stay tuned!
