I think it's also a compromise between being functional and not looking uncanny anymore. As you remember, Kim had issues with creeping people out, so now she looks fleshy and won't disturb anyone with her flesh unveiling for a screwdriver or a holo-projector.

He makes a point that is relevant, but I think when you meet an until then only theoretical being and your concern is the arm, it goes to show how this city of science is really not about science as about form.
