It was somewhat of a memetically understood fact that it was ‘justified’ for Fusion to attempt to make its borders match the USA. The Abyss and real space history may diverge heavily at times, but they were still tied at the hips, especially since new arrivals to the Abyss steadily trickled in from the mundane. It kept the culture from splitting too far in most cases.
Going beyond that was met with resistance and movement towards the south, while the Purest Front was in the early stages of a civil war, was twice as heavily surveyed. Added to that was John’s infamy as the current pot-stirrer of the Abyss. Everyone was keeping tabs on what he was doing, so him not having done anything notable on the international stage for over two months was met with scepticism.
Trying to address this situation was going to be easier than usual because John did not intend to lie about anything that had happened. They had verified an oddity to the south, moved there, met other people who had come to check out the same oddity, identified the oddity as a hostile god, and then defeated that god as a joint coalition. They also had killed some Lorylim while they were at it.
Lying about this was going to be impossible anyway. They were relocating over 20’000 people and Nahuatl was a language anyone could learn, there were millions of speakers still alive in the mundane. Best to get the story out on their terms – especially since the story only helped John. He couldn’t verify for people just how strong Macuil had been, not unless the Grim Reaper gave a press conference (which he did not see happening), but a hostile god at the border he could prove. All the facts were aligned, the Aztec people would tell of Macuil’s final acts, and the Illuminati, if no one else, would do their own press release.
‘It’ll hopefully reduce the nipping at my heels,’ John hoped, just as the car stopped in front of a house. ‘Alright, here I go politicking again!’
It was an annoying necessity that John had to personally drive around the Hudson Barrier and show his face to the various people that had been getting uppity in his absence. There were allies on the list as well, alongside social clubs it was simply smart to pay a visit to, but the focus was on the political adversaries.
John made sure to be cordial during each visit. The intent was not (primarily) to intimidate. What he wanted was to show his presence and that he was as strong as ever in his commitments and character. To that end, his security detail remained in the car whenever he was talking.
