Waiting for hard drive. Getting back to work.

As you know our hard drive got damaged during the fire evacuation, but the lab technicians in Madrid tell us it will be fixed this week, so we're really excited about this! We're not out of the woods yet but hope is on the horizon! On the drive was our latest video, which shows us making a fence to protect our demolished food forest. So if all goes to plan we can post it to youtube very soon π€. In the meantime, we're back to the compost toilet build, with the hope we can get it all sealed up before the mosquito season begins, hope you enjoy the clips! Lots of love to you all.

Yes we have finally finished it! Thanks for noticing! It's early days but it feels pretty sturdy. Our one worry is that the mouflon won't know it's there and when they come down from the mountain in their big groups at night they will run straight into it and bend all the posts! This happens a lot with our neighbour, he says they can only see 3 colours, and galvanised steel isn't one of them haha! After re-straightening all his bent posts and destroyed fencing from this happening, he found that by painting the tops of all the posts yellow they stopped doing it! So we should really do this, we just haven't had the time to go to the store and get some yet...

I see the fence from the last video is all finished. How is it working. Does it hold against the insisiting sheep?

Thanks for the comment, we appreciate the love and motivation! We didn't have any building experience when we moved here, we mainly just went on youtube and typed in "how to do X" and it would show us 100 videos of how to do it (and how not to do it haha)! Also we spoke a lot with the people in the builders yard about how to use the materials and they were a big help. Robbie has an engineering degree so he has been able to do some calculations on more structural things, but really you don't need any experience, just the passion to want to make things! We employed an architect to submit our plans for the house, and tell us what is allowed on the land, and after that we just decided to try all the building on our own. Initially it is a good idea to speak with 2-3 well recommended builders in the area, pay them to come and see your house or your project for a few hours to get their advice, that way you can get some guidance on the bigger projects and give you confidence to tackle it yourself in the knowledge you are on the right path! It's been really hard for us to find reliable helpers here for some reason, building is a really tough job so if you do manage to find a local builder who is reliable and nice then that could be a good route initially, so they can teach you the basics, then maybe after a few months of learning you could continue on your own!
