Consult with Caroline the Umbrella Cockatoo
🕑 Added 2024-10-15 15:00:03 +0000 UTCThis is Gracelyn’s first consultation for a (new to her) rescued 3yr old Umbrella Cockatoo that came to her on an all seed diet and with a lot of fears.
Caroline has already taken to the BirdTricks pellets but is struggling with her acceptance to fresh food. We discuss how to approach the diet conversion onto our Seasonal Feeding System and the importance of scale training. We went over why it is important to have a clean diet in place so that we have the right treat motivation from Caroline to overcome the fears she has.
Target training will be a big part of this and Gracelyn will be prepping by watching the Mini Target Course so that she can capture a calm target from Caroline, as the first attempt at targeting did not go smoothly. I am excited for Gracelyn and Caroline to make progress as the diet conversion moves along. She has already reported back that she is making progress with the diet and step ups! She plans on future consults, so I will keep you posted!

She’s still struggling with taking chop! Doing so much better at stepping up she’s still unsure on perches/big changes but she’s getting more comfortable with new people which is a HUGE thing she’s also learning to accept the crate more.

I love that she is showing how important diet is. Thank you for sharing your story and for rescuing this baby not many people can handle a cockatoo let alone one that can’t be handled.
