Teaching Monet to go into my hand
🕑 Added 2024-07-17 15:00:05 +0000 UTCImmediately following Blueberry's passing, Monet was all over the place... screaming, flying, searching for her everywhere. I was pretty much doing the same thing emotionally... screaming, crying... felt like I was the one that was lost. But then this other side of her came out... and she started doing things that Blueberry used to do; flying to me in the kitchen and letting me kiss her (something she had never allowed previously) while on my shoulder, cuddling into my face/neck and allowing me to cover her with my hand...
I didn't want this to just be a random "phase" that came and went, so I decided to make a formal session out of it.
The first part of this video was showing how she allowed me to do it, and was just me getting video proof of the phase existing. I was too emotional by her response to me to train in that moment. But I felt it was really important to have a formal session on it so that I wouldn't lose it.
This session was to expand upon the trick where I taught Monet to come to my hand and snuggle into it. My hand would make contact with her back very lightly but on her own accord. This new behavior is asking Monet to get into my hand and allow my hand to fully close around her whole body. This is a great trick to train so that you don't have to grab your bird, but can still handle it in that way when needed. I would definitely train these behaviors in this order.

Monet isn't overly physical with us so I don't have to worry about that right now. The only time she shows excessive hormones is when we allow her to get overweight so we ensure to really make sure we have that all dialed in.

Mo's face when you went to treat Cressi!! 🤣

How do you do that without them being hormonal😭😭😭 my lovebird is so hormonal and I know it’s my fault I’m trying to work on it but now she gets mad if I don’t help preen her or let her sleep in my hand 😫 this is SOOO helpful!!!! I’m always curious what it’s like for lovebirds cuz mine is so quick and fast and always trying to do all the tricks before I cue her😅😅 or she seemingly flaps her wings out of impatient so I also use it for a trick now. She loved hearing Monet chirping. Thank you for all you do

No, conures don't need seed in their diet on a consistent basis. They should just be on the SFS and pellets like the big guys. Seeds/nuts for training only.

Is that a good addition to a GCC diet?

Those are great treats, super low fat and perfect sized! Mo likes the Blueberry Seed and Grain mix so I just use what's in that mix.

She is saying Wondi which is a nickname we have for Bondi
BirdTricks
She said "Hey Wondi". I will be sharing a video about teaching her to speak later this month!

Omg little Mo is so flipping cute makes me want to go and work with my conures. I have been using safflower seeds for treads. What does Mo like ?

Cressi was saying Bondi, I think. I thought I heard her after Dave said that.

Aww, little Mo. I wish I was in a position to adopt her. She's so cute.

I'm so curious, what did Cressi do that got her so much attention!?
