Advice for having your first macaw! (Outside the Flock)

She’s kept birds in the past and currently has budgies and cockatiels, but is preparing to bring home her FIRST macaw! It’s a very exciting time for her and her family, and she wants to be as prepared as possible and establish some mentorship along the way to be sure she and Sunny are set up for success.

This is very interesting. I am dreaming of a big bird to free fly. I have a tiny conure who is extremely clingy and cuddly. We are struggling to teach her to be more independent, but it sounds like it can be even more challenging with a bigger bird. Thanks for sharing this consult. Gives me lots to think about.

I love how excited she was for a new baby in the home but also that you stressed that we have to make our babies independent because that is something that we forget. Also something else was that step up is a trick that is something I have had to point out on FB a few times as well. Thanks for sharing

A Nikki update since this consult happened - Sunny is home, diet converted, and THRIVING! We continue to meet together to work on, making sure Sunny is acclimating to the family beautifully, even after the honeymoon phase! So so proud of her and Sunny!

Love this! The melty baby macaw is like a drug, man. 😆 it’s the best but could totally see why it isn’t setting them up for the most success. I’ve had to be really intentional on my interactions with Bonnie because of this!

I loved what you said about the bluffing. I was told that by tons of people with my ringneck, but because I already followed Birdtricks I never even saw bluffing. You are amazing Landon!! If only all people could get the consult before the bird!!🧡
