Outside the Flock - Bonding with an older bird
🕑 Added 2024-11-04 00:00:01 +0000 UTCSimons owners Sharon and Clifford were so fun to meet with!! Simon was adopted a little older in life, and though they had previously raised an Amazon parrot from a baby chick, they were struggling with how to bond with an older bird.
We talked about treat motivation. And how a mostly ‘junk food’ diet will really sabotage you efforts in training! We also discussed parrots talking, cage set up/enrichment, and what might motivate a bird other than food (do birds really like to do things for ‘affection and praise’?). It was a very fun consult and I’m so excited to hear how Simon, Clifford, and Sharon progress together!

This was so much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing and to these folks for being willing to share. It's so great to see people who want to improve the relationship with their pet by learning instead of forcing the animal. Love to see it. The video is very educational too.. so, in my case, don't try to pet my budgies on the wings or the belly because that will be too intimate. Got it. Especially since I have a budgie couple. I'll just kinda aim for the head (they allowed me to do that yesterday, just for a second but I'm so proud of their courage). I keep following the most important rule which is when a bird says no, it's no. This was a lot of fun to watch. It's motivated me to get the budgie training course. Thanks.
