A Monet Update!
🕑 Added 2023-10-20 14:00:05 +0000 UTCI wanted to give you all an update on Monet the lovebird that Capri took on as a project bird. Now, all of Monet's content is going to be going into our new Lovebird Addition Course that will automatically be part of our Budgie Course. Lucas is still editing that beast of a project but when it's done, I will be posting it here on Patreon for all of you at the Bondi tier and above as well as adding it to those accounts who have my budgie course already or get it in the future.
Lucas has had a lot of edits on his plate (he did all my recent freeflight videos that have come out on the YouTube channel!) so bear with him as he makes time for all the projects he took on from us...
Anyway, I am having a great time training Monet and will be documenting her journey forward here on Patreon for all of you as she moves into our house!

Yay!!! So cute Iβve been waiting for more lovebird stuffπππ₯°π sheβs so cute!! My lovebird has gotten more tame but I feel she is always on alertπ and so fast when I train with her I canβt keep up.

P.S. You're fine. If it's still relatively warm in Idaho, can you let her in the house for increasingly longer times and hide some forage treats on the places you want her to go? So you and she both get used to her being housebound. If I could take a bird, I'd sure consider her. I'm not cuddly-prone either.

I feel like parrotlets are some of the hardest birds to work with -- so many are simply put in groups of four or five and left in a cage for their entire lives, kind of like finches. There are those "unicorns" who respond better to people and training, but it still takes some dedication. I try hard never to compare birds with mammals or domesticated pets, but I will say this: I also foster kittens, and the kittens who come to me ill or with some health issues often turn out to be the friendliest, most docile cats. I think it is because I HAVE to handle them constantly (for medication, keeping them warm, etc), and then, as they get better, they associate that comfort and good feeling with people. I wonder if that kind of thing also happened with Bluee, because she came to you in tough shape, and then realized that people = comfort. For most birds, people = chaos (and I typically agree!), and that's hard for some of them to get over.

She is adorable! She reminds me a lot of my male parrotlet, he is still hand shy and I move him with targeting and meal times mostly. I can't find the block of getting him to even fly to my hand. Yet he loves to hang out on us. The guy I got him from believed that holding them in your hand until they give in would tame them. π€¦ββοΈ. So I feel like I'm still fighting against that.
