Sunnyside (Blueberry)
🕑 Added 2020-12-17 17:00:00 +0000 UTCSooooo... since Blueberry owns the house and all, she insists on forcing herself on every bird that comes in which is why we have to be really strategic about when she has cage time (ie: Rocko coming in!) or we do our best to encourage her to stay in another room (my room tends to be her preferred space).
I figured since Sunny moves slow and Blueberry moves fast, she would be ok getting herself out of a bad situation. However, it turns out Blueberry was not the one I needed to be worrying about! Blueberry loves bothering Sunny so he has to move around the tree which is nice to keep Sunny moving and active but not quite the encouragement reasoning I wanted for him!
With that said, there is some down time for Blueberry and she will just hang out. Somehow, they seem so content in one another's company. Like they both want that instinctive flock dynamic but don't know how to be good friends to other birds yet lol.
I had a family member who lost their cockatiel to an older macaw and so this size difference, although cute and endearing, is too drastic for me to be ok with. So after getting these cute snap shots we decided Blueberry is a bit too overbearing to have out at the same time as Sunny.

On another topic, Sunny looks absolutely beautiful with his feathers. Just saying. Y'all did an amazing job and I'm so glad you could collaborate with Animal Wonders of Montana and Jessi (sp?)! I love watching each of your collaborations!!! 😆😍

That is a huge difference when you put in those terms. I think you're right to be cautious. I know we mostly talk about birds, but my smallest dog is the pushiest and tests the boundaries of my two larger dogs all the time. He's small (a Yorkie) and moves so quickly that it's hard to get control of the situation. It's good to be cautious, at least for now. :)

I doubt it - that’s something I haven’t been willing to test. Usually it’s all 3 conures so that sort of bullying would be scary and if it was one on one, the conures are also skilled flyers so although the bigger birds tend to move slower and more predictably the conures don’t and could definitely give Blue a run for her money in some cases. There’s a huge size difference there too that I think people don’t realize. Lily is my biggest conure at 110 grams and Berry is only 30 grams.

Depends on how territorial your quaker is, IMO. One of ours is a flock warrior and seems oblivious of the size difference between him and a large black cockatoo, who is also a slow mover and a baby. He is constantly trying to nip at the baby cockatoo. The other who appears to be the flock sentinel wisely keeps his distance but also sets off the alarm when he so much as sees the black cockatoo. The screaming is, well, exhausting after a while. All this is just during late afternoon roosting time, when they are all with us in a very large aviary! I should say though that all bets are off when it rains - particularly summer rain. They all happily stand on the same perch and snooze and shake off their feathers with their heads facing up.

lol...every bird I've ever had was terrified of any other living creature, except the budgie! I've heard stories about budgies causing injury to other birds but it was usually another smaller bird like a cockatiel. You are smart to protect Blue from her bravery.

My son's budgie is the smallest bird in the flock and also the pushiest 😆 He isn't afraid of any of the big birds and tends to pester them so he doesn't get to be around them.

I have a question about size differences. I currently have a Quaker and I’m considering getting an African grey within a few years. Does anyone have thoughts on if they could safely interact or not? Obviously they’d be housed separately but could I have them in the same room on different play stands? Or could they be on the same play stand if watched closely?
