🕑 Added 2020-12-05 18:00:04 +0000 UTCAn update on his eating habits since this kind of topic was addressed in the video with me and Patty about how using foods in the seasonal feeding (not adding them to the entire batch, though) as a transition type tool is ok as long as you eventually get to the point where you don't NEED them to get your bird to eat it. I actually kept Sunny on the egg mixture for a longer amount of time than I normally would because of his low calcium levels and low weight/body mass. I wanted to see both of those "normalize" before I dwindled back on it which they did in his check up in October so I was able to completely get away from the added egg. As you can see, he isn't crazy about beans though lol (weirdo!)

Supplements should only be given specifically - like due to blood results your vet recommended X supplement at a specific dose based on your bird's weight and then a recheck at X time to see how it affected the numbers in the bloodwork. Hopefully the diet is such that your bird doesn't require supplements but sometimes, like in female birds, they need a calcium supplement if they begin egg laying and need extra help replenishing their calcium in their bodies. For Sunny, his bloodwork showed a calcium deficiency which is why I am giving it and from giving it his new bloodwork showed it was on the low end of normal so it's definitely helping. But there may come a time where the vet has me stop it and see if his body can normalize for itself or not. I personally would never use supplements blindly without being told to for a specific reason by a vet.

Flax seed has great nutritional value and adds that nutty flavor most all birds enjoy. Win win!

Mine make a bigger mess with pellets than seasonal - seasonal is their fav so they gobble every bit up!

Are there supplements I should give to my baby caique in addition to your feeding system and pellet? Or are you guys talking about supplementing animals who only need it for a specific reason? π Iβll be providing a mineral block and cuttlebone, so I just want to make sure I know now if I need to add something. π€

Adding the flax seed was the magic trick for us! Not just for our new guy but for everyone- they dive into breakfast like they never have! Woot woot!! His eyes are incredible, while he was eating I just kept staring at his eyes, theyβre gorgeous!

Mine eats the beans first! Legumes are definitely his favorite foods. Sunny is looking so handsome! What a difference in his condition from how he looked when he was rescued. It's amazing what love and good food will do!
