I purchased a bag of milk thistle seeds out of curiosity. They are good for people too. I gave my pionus a few and he ate them readily. Maybe because he only gets limited amounts of seeds and nuts. Although he is the opposite of a picky bird and he likes strong flavors, even bitter. Not much of a litmus for other birds. Since he likes them I think I'll give him a pinch once a week or so. That's probably not enough to stave off liver disease but seems like it wouldn't hurt. So glad you caught Sunny's liver disease! He's is so lucky that you guys are caring for him until he finds his forever home.

I personally find it easier to put the liquid into the morning food I give because it mixes so easily with it. Itβs a bitter taste so I donβt think all birds would willingly eat the seeds and yeah Iβm sure itβs harder to dose the seeds.

I definitely worry about that side of things for him - these 2lb bags of pellets are $60 each π if he has to be on them long term it will take someone financially able and committed to do it.

I'm curious about why people don't give birds milk thistle seeds instead of the suppliment. It seems that birds would prefer having it as a seed and the whole food would be better. Maybe it's a dosage thing?

Poor Sunny. Heβs definitely been through it. Hopefully only ββοΈβ days for Sunny from here on out. A positive change in his liver may make a huge difference in other problem areas for him. π€
