Hey Bree! So the questions can only come from the Morgan tier for this, but the Rocko tier gets to watch the answers to what we were asked from the Morgans if that makes sense. However I would recommend our podcast that talks about this titled "are talking birds cute or deadly"!

I’ve got a question for next month if you’re collecting them already? I’m trying to navigate what I should do when my bird becomes really heightened. Arlo is a classic IRN- so he can become heightened/overexcited- and if we’re not careful, we get nailed. What’s the right way to navigate it? I don’t want to give him the message that to end a session he just has to get over excited and it’s back to the cage he goes.

I was yelling "hackles, hackles" at my screen. Hahaha... I have two Dobie's, one of them loves any opportunity to show off her hackles. LOL Great video, I loved "seeing" the FU feathers. I think Fred shows those kinds of feathers when I'm not paying enough attention to him. He is a Cockatoo after all. Albeit a small one. =0 )

I would say the same could be said for our macaws. Jinx is the most obvious, then Comet, then Tusa. But sometimes Jinx can surprise you too if you aren't really paying attention to whether he's mellow or heightened.

This was due to how we provoked them. The first time we filmed we used Jinx and Dave as an example - to keep it simple and watch working through things but then after I lost all that footage we had nothing to work through again. So then when I did it solo I was just planning to go around and film what I could, and then when I had to film A THIRD time... I was like to hell with it, I'm moody, lets provoke them and show some real body language if we are going to do this. So we provoked our birds in certain ways... and had done so multiple times to get this response. With Jinx, things like taking the brothers out together constantly in front of him... housing the brothers together for a while will also change the dynamic, same with housing Cressi/Bondi together for certain amounts of time. We just know how to set our birds up for success or do the exact opposite and I figured no one wanted to see body language of them all getting along.

Jinx and Tusa actually get along great if it's just the two of them but I did some things to provoke all the birds (who are more easily touchy during this season anyhow) to be able to show the body language I thought you wanted to see. We don't usually shift the dynamic intentionally among our flock.

My cockatiel Willow gives me way more obvious body language when she’s not happy (open mouth, hiss, cockatiel grumble-screech, lunge) but my other cockatiel, Ash is more subtle and often skips to the lunge 😅(strangely, he is less vocally angry). They are nice enough when I do get caught, it’s an open mouth hit or warning nip/bite.

Why were all of the birds freaking out when they saw each other? Is this all due to hormones? I liked seeing Bondi do his rockin out at the beginning!
