Wow! I never knew this is possible! You guys really went above and beyond to fulfill his dream of flying π
Jennifer Percopo
Yay!! Canβt wait! He looks so beautiful all stretched out with the photo with Dave, heβs so lucky he has you guys, youβre completely changing his life π₯°

No, it's not surgical. He was only put under because it took 1.5 hours to do the work and we would never want to restrain him that long for it.
BirdTricks
You will have to wait for his reaction video to be edited to find that out π

All of his imping was covered by one donor, and because of that and the fact we couldn't get ahold of any of Sunny's past medical records, we went ahead and had a full workup done. So the imping was just under $500 total and the rest of the work we had done was just at another $500. If you'd like to donate towards the extra work you're more than welcome to help cover it by sending to PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/birdtricks there's about $200 left to cover it all. Thank you for offering to help! xo
BirdTricks
Yep!
BirdTricks
Just under $500, but it is not a surgery. He was put under because of how many he had to have done, but this is not painful and can be done with the bird simply restrained.

I must have missed this in the QA Sunday. These are feather implants. I am intriqued.
David Eugene Deutsch
How does the donated feather implanting work? Does Sunny have to take anti-rejection drugs?
Evita Westwood
Iβm so happy for him! Lucky little champ, I canβt wait to see him fly one day when his wing muscles get stronger! I imagine going from stubby wings to full wings in a day would be quite an adjustment to make. Not gradual like a moult.
Mackenzie
I missed his reaction but it is SUCH a great look for him and you can see how happy is in the photo! You guys really do do your best by every bird! π
Alexis Stubbs
Looking good Sunny!

Absolutely amazing. I've only ever seen this with Raptors

I watched the IG story so many times! His reaction was just adorable! He kept holding out his wings like he didnβt know what do with it! Grateful you have so many blue-and-gold macaw free flight students that were able to donate. Thanks -you Tango, Sunshine and Woodrow. π
Jennifer Percopo
Look how beautiful they look!!!! Did he try to fly at all yet?
Linton Hutcheson

!!!!!! I am beyond excited to see how he progresses from here. Canβt wait for the day that he figures out he can fly *with* Jinx when he sees him fly to you and shows all those signs of wanting to fly. Thanks guys for giving him this gift and sharing with us π

Wow! I never imagined this could be done for a bird as heavy as a macaw! I read an article about a Green Cheek Conure getting primaries "imped" (is that short for implanted?) but at 60 grams it seems less miraculous. Congrats, Sunny! He sure looks pleased with the results!
caitlyn Metcalf
β€ I love the last pic with Dave, he is totally showing them off β€
Linton Hutcheson
If so....what was the rough estimate for surgery. I have a reason for asking
Linton Hutcheson
Are you saying he got artificial feathers attached surgically
Wendy Cottingham
This is so exciting!! I can't wait to see his reaction!ππππ
