Tasty Tuesday (Banana Beaks Pudding)
🕑 Added 2019-05-07 14:00:02 +0000 UTCThis recipe is great for birds who prefer fruit over veggies and/or pellets. It's a great one to use to get birds to try healthier foods, especially pellets. If your bird is reluctant to eating pellets in general or a new pellet you're trying to convert him onto it will be best to start with pellets in powdered form and wean onto using them in their whole form.
This recipe calls for:
2 bananas
1 tsp crushed almonds
6 tbsp Feed Your Flock pellets
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Some extra tips and ideas:
Sometimes all it takes is the slightest taste for a bird to become interested in a food. One of many ways to introduce a new food is to put a little dab of it on your bird's beak and let them lick it off. You can do this with recipes of this sticky texture.
This recipe is also ideal for converting a bird over to pellets, just please keep in mind fruit is treat food and should only be given 3x per week, maximum.

Typical Galah behaviour! Today they love it (whatever "it" is) and tomorrow it will be poisonous

That is what we've heard. I will be sure to clarify with the aussies when we get there!

Are Bondi and Bandit different suspecies?

Ohh that makes a lot more sense

Basically, mushy food can trigger hormones because it resembles regurgitated food - but if it doesn't and you don't see your bird showing hormonal behavior then go for it. My birds are eating mushy foods currently and not showing any signs of hormones. Since I just put them outside I add yams to their birdtricks diet breakfast.

Ok thanks so much the whole mushy food topic still confuses me a bit lol
BirdTricks
Yes! You can make it less mushy by leaving the pellets and banana more chunky but it’ll turn mushy for sure so if your bird is acting hormonal avoid this or make it a frozen treat.

Oops, my finger slipped! As I was saying... I love the idea of this recipe as my Grey's favorite food is bananas! Her not so favorite food is pellets! So, I'll blend it up and see how she does. Thanks!

I love the recipe as my Grey

Would this be considered a mushy food?
Wendy Cottingham
Sure that would be great!! If you feel good about it. I want you guys to be ok with it.🙂

Yeah we had played with the idea of including it in the toucan tier but then realized it messes up our consult package too much so decided against that, but would you like one of the family friendly downloads in place of your ticket cost?
BirdTricks
What a cool idea!!!

I think I might try making this into little frozen treats for the summer :) banana is my ultimate treat for Tango and is currently being used when he comes in from flying (since implementing this we have never had to worry about him not wanting to come back in). He also loves to lick ice (?). So might try combining the two loves together - add some water and put into ice cube trays, perfect sizes for when he comes in from a hot flying day 😁😁

Thanks JL! I think I'm going to try both a banana and a yam version and see what they like best :)

I think you mentioned once before doing your family friendly dvd??
BirdTricks
My birds would love that! Great idea.
BirdTricks
Yes! It does help the rescue as they get money from ticket sales but let me know if you want to cash in on that free ticket or maybe I can gift you something from our website instead?

I’d probably use Millet seed for budgies and maybe use half banana and half something else of the same texture they do like - like yam or the like.

She’s really coming out of her shell with these videos! She makes it so fun. And hilarious to edit.

I may try this with sweet potatoe. Ill substitute the banana’s for sweet potatoe!
Wendy Cottingham
Capri is so cute!! I am getting so excited for your workshop. I already bought my ticket when I realized it could be free?? Is that correct?? Not that I mind paying because I know it helps the rescue out.
Nicole Bledsoe
I love at the end Capri says I’m not really a good bird person but my parent are. LOL So adorable!

I have budgies. To make this for them, should I just crush everything really small or is there a particular type of nut you'd recommend? They've had banana before but aren't crazy about it and they've never had almonds.
