Yes, I think it should be just a bit longer, in order to cover the waistband of the trousers. 19th and early 20th century vests were shorter than modern vests because trousers of that era had a higher rise. As trousers became lower, vests needed to become longer! ☺️

I like the shawl-lapel vest the best! However, a vest should never be worn with a belt, because it needs to fully cover the waistband of the trousers.
