You'll see spikes happen if the WAN connection goes down and you lose internet access. Devices will freak out and spam DNS queries if they don't get a response.

This will not address a spike in queries. The DNSSEC issue would have caused CPU usage to max out if you were affected by it. The chances of anyone actually experiencing the DNSSEC flaw is very small.

Something slammed my network at 3am and slammed for dns info 8k more than usual.. maybe this will help.. was weird huge spike when asleep
