Traveler: Chapter 7

It had been a few weeks since Harry had started to practice hand-to-hand combat with Nat and had incorporated his magic into melee combat. Although the man didn’t need to, Barton was looking forward to seeing how he would cope without using his vanishing trick.
Seven other agents took their place around Harry, surrounding him from all sides while Barton stayed sentry on top of a small tower, his bow aimed at the wizard who nodded at him.
In an instant, a flurry of punches and kicks went Harry’s way who shielded against them before ducking under an agent’s punch and delivering a vicious uppercut. The agent toppled over, unconscious.

“I warned you,” he muttered before he grabbed an arrow and notched it. Right when he noticed a slight distance between the wizard and the four remaining agents, he shot it, smirking when he saw the familiar blue glow of that shield surrounding Potter’s arm as he held it up.
His smirk widened when the arrow exploded on impact and the shield shattered, and he saw the wizard’s eyes widen slightly before an agent capitalized and delivered a vicious kick to his sternum. Potter grunted at the impact and looked up at him.
“Lucky shot, Barton,” he called out before looking at the agent who had kicked him with a smirk.
“Eh, no hard feelings, right?” The agent muttered with a sheepish smile. Harry grinned.
Off to the side, the three women shook their heads.
“Now he’ll start playing,” Nat muttered. Her fellow women sighed.
“None, mate,” Harry replied before raising his fist, and the agent gulped when he saw the hand glowing a malicious blue. Harry took a step forward before swiping his arm, and Barton’s eyes widened when his arrow changed trajectory and hit the metallic wall to the side, exploding on impact.
“I thought we agreed to the no magic rule!” Barton shouted.
“I said I’d not use spells when attacking and won’t use what you so crudely call the vanishing trick. I didn’t say anything about telekinesis,” Harry smirked and tightened his fist, and all the remaining agents were lifted in the air. Harry didn’t use any further magic, and like a predator on a hunt, he started to circle them.

“I’d been using a very basic shield in the beginning. That’s why your exploding arrow managed to break it. However, as you can see, I can nullify those explosions easily,” Harry remarked nonchalantly as he kept staring at Barton. “Now, you got anything else or should I end it?”
“Damn he can be scary,” Maria muttered from the sidelines. There was no reply, and she glanced at the two women beside her. She sighed when she saw the looks of heated desire her fellow women were giving their man.

Barton sighed. That was correct. He glanced to the side and saw that he was still on the small tower overlooking the training area, and the sounds of approaching footsteps prompted him to look over. The smirking visage of his sister in all but blood came in and Barton almost groaned.

Nat chuckled as she grabbed his arm and pulled him up. Barton wobbled slightly but quickly caught his bearings and held the railing to support his shaking body.

He waved his hand and the agents stirred, and Helen could only shake her head at the marvel that Harry’s magic was.
“I can’t wait to see how your magic can help us in the medical field,” Helen said excitedly, and despite himself, Harry grinned.
A few groans sounded out as the agents finally regained consciousness and immediately winced as pain shot through them.
“Yeah, don’t move too much,” Harry prompted, and everyone watched as he started to fix their injuries one by one.
“Okay,” Harry said as he pulled his hand away from the last agent and stood up. “That’s all from my side. If you have any further issues, our doctors here will easily fix them.”
“I don’t think we’ll need to do much. I’ve seen your work first hand, and it’s always impeccable,” Helen chuckled.
The agents got up and nodded at Barton, who permitted them to go about their ways before he looked at Nat.

“Seems like that’s our cue to proceed,” Harry smiled at Helen as he said so. The woman nodded at him and started to walk towards the laboratory, prompting Harry to follow her.
They had first met two weeks ago after one of his spars with a few agents which had become the norm since Nat started to train him. He had knocked them unconscious with some bruises, and before the doctors could take them away to the infirmary, he had used a few healing spells to treat them. That was when he was properly introduced to the medical team SHIELD had at its command, and its chief, Doctor Helen Cho.

However, Helen had taken it as a sort of personal project, and it didn’t take much effort on her part to convince him to take part in her experiments. It had already been cleared up that he would not be some sort of lab rat and would only demonstrate a few basic healing techniques while Helen observed how it worked and whether it was possible to either replicate it without magic or combine it with medicine. It all seemed very complicated to him, but she was insistent. Harry had no problem.

Harry chuckled as they took a left turn, and saw the door to the laboratory in the distance. This was a secluded part of the Helicarrier that had been assigned to Helen and no one was allowed to enter if one didn’t have clearance. For him to so conveniently walk in without a care in the world showed his position in SHIELD quite clearly, even though he was not an agent.

“That’s right. I only know what I had to learn due to… circumstances,” he replied. Helen, to his relief, didn’t probe and simply gave him an understanding smile.
“I see. In that case, I want you to tell me a few things which you can do with magic to heal someone.”
Harry nodded and started to narrate everything he could remember. From simple spells used to clear the throat or mend broken bones to the complicated Vulnera Sanantur – Harry told her all the healing spells he knew. “You have no idea how much this could help us. Would you mind coming over a few more times to help me? You can explain or perform spells and I’ll observe how those work, and we can then forward all the intel to the R&D division to see if they can deduce how the spells and potions actually do the healing,” she asked hopefully.
