Sure, his followers had chosen the cowardly way of denouncing his name all those years ago, but they had never taken any step to actually harm him. Instead, every one of them had, in one way or another, ensured that the cause was kept alive, something they had succeeded in.
It was for this very reason that Harry had no trust in Snape. The man was marked, which meant he could not take any step to harm Voldemort. Harry had, thus, concluded that the only reason why Snape managed to remain the Order’s spy was that he was allowed to do so by Voldemort himself, which meant the flow of information was to the extent Voldemort allowed. The moment Snape acted out of line, he would die. Simple as that.
Currently, the Dark Mark was something that Harry had taken interest in, and he was devising a way to overcome its effects. Voldemort’s mark connected all his followers, allowing every one of them to tap into the magical reserves of all the others who were branded with the same. That was how the Death Eaters managed to gain the upper hand in battles despite being fewer in number. Only the trusted ones were bestowed with the mark since there was a limitation to how many could be marked, and they were all the elites of Voldemort’s circle. It wasn’t as if they were highly accomplished witches and wizards. They used spells intended to cause immense damage and had the power to borrow resources from their companions.
No Death Eater knew this, and they all believed that they were powerful enough, hereby further adding fuel to the concept of the superiority of the purebloods, particularly those who subscribed to their doctrine. With a conclusion like that came hubris, one Harry intended to take massive advantage of and wipe out the unfair advantage Voldemort’s inner circle enjoyed over others.
He was devising a way to corrupt the Dark Mark – something to delink the connection the Death Eaters shared, and owing to all the knowledge he had about that mark now, he believed he had managed to figure out how to do it. He would obviously need to test it out first. He was not sure whether something would happen if he tweaked the Dark Mark in such a way that would alert Voldemort or his followers and this required him to test it. “However, I am afraid certain mistakes need to be properly punished. Everyone apart from Montague, MacNair and Avery will leave this hall. Now!”
