Kazir was shocked and didn't expect that the conversation would reach that stage. He was looking at Scarlett who was waiting for his answer.
In just a second, many thoughts were working in his mind. He was not that stupid, he had an idea why Scarlett invited him. At first, he wanted to say no and deny her invitation. There was no deeper meaning, his mind just automatically wanted to blurt out "No".
Kazir experienced two lifetimes, he never had a great relationship with the opposite gender. All of his relationships failed.
His past life was also a failure. In fact, he was relieved when he saw the upcoming truck that killed him. At least he knew that his miserable life was over, or so he thought.
He experienced painful rejections that made him afraid of women.
He opened his mouth and almost said "No". However, he looked at Scarlett and realized that the woman was actually embarrassed and anxious by what she said. Her face was so red that she looked like an apple.
She was brave enough to speak her mind. Even though the chances might be heartbreaking. That was courageous.
Scarlett clenched her fists, her heart was beating fast and she felt badly hot. This might be the worst decision she would make in her life.
Seeing her expression, Kazir closed his mouth and thought about it seriously.
He knew how painful it was to be rejected and left behind. It would be awful to do it to another person. He suddenly realized how bad of a person he was by rejecting Reese and Cameron a few years ago. At least he should be brave enough to face them head-on and say his real feelings.
"Scarlett... I actually don't know how the media will paint us once they see us walking together on the red carpet."
"Um, okay, that's not the answer I'm expecting." She meekly laughed, trying to hide her nervousness.
"But I'm also not a coward who will kneel down to their ideologies. I'm tired of getting so many people saying that I'm wrong because I exist. Fuck them. At the end of that day, I'm the one who's living my life. I know that I didn't kill people, I didn't hurt people, and I'm a good person."
"Yes, you are a good person. Honestly, so many women will love to have you as their partner."
"Is that a confession?"
"W- what? H- Hell no! Look, I'm just trying to help you forget your loneliness because I don't want Batman Begins to fail! Kazir, don't misunderstand!" She said it while kicking her foot to the ground, showing her frustration.
Kazir chuckled. He realized that he was not lonely anymore. This lifetime was fulfilling despite the heartbreaks he experienced. There were people who cared about him. He appreciates it so much.
It would be stupid to break their hearts just because he was depressed. At least this time, he didn't want to hurt Scarlett who was being brave.
"I'm going to the red carpet with you. No, I want to go to the red carpet with you."
"That's great to hear... You made the right choice." Scarlett was trying her best not to smile but her lips were curling up. She was cute.
"Then, I'll contact you later to talk about our plan." She bid farewell and walked away so fast like she was embarrassed. Her ears were burning red.
"Take care."
Kazir laughed watching her like this.
Then he smiled at himself.
"I guess I'm changing, huh? Damn, I didn't know that I actually have the capacity to feel bad for a woman."
He showed sympathy for women, he also showed love and affection to them. But he never really cared that much about them, in the real sense. Not even for Angelina. Sure, he loved her, and he felt jealous whenever some actor worked with Angelina, but he always believed that his decision was right and he was better than his partner.
As for "cheating" on Reese, it was situation that happened because Kazir showed his weakness. So Kazir would make sure it never happen again.
This was a defense mechanism... Kazir never showed his vulnerable side to anyone. Because the last time he did that, he suffered so much that the thought of ending his life was not bad.
So whenever he was in a relationship, Kazir always put a barrier to make sure that he wouldn't be hurt that much.
He always believed that the relationship wouldn't last forever, a way of defense mechanism so that he wouldn't be hurt once they broke up.
It might be crazy, but he brainwashed himself to believe that he would always be better than his partner.
So for him to think about a woman and her feelings, was something Kazir never expected.
"I hope I'll reach the point in my life where I can trust a woman again. I really hope so."
He sighed. At least this time, he made sure not to hurt Scarlett. He didn't do it because he was worried about his movie. He did it because he knew that Scarlett would be heartbroken if he rejected her.
See, nobody wants to experience rejection. It would destroy someone's self-esteem. Possibly making the person depressed.
In Kazir's case, it changed him to the person he was right now.
+++++
[Author's Note: After thinking about it, I realized that Kazir always has the upper hand in the relationship. As the one who created him, I decided to delve more into his character and found some interesting things that even I didn't know. Maybe this is a coincidence, I'm not sure, but Kazir made sure that he would be the better person in the relationship so that he wouldn't be hurt again. I just learned that today. I'm actually surprised because I never thought that Kazir is a complex character.]
