The Tour - Part One
🕑 Added 2022-01-21 07:17:23 +0000 UTCHello friends, fans, and supporters! I'm back with Coach Nic, a therapist whose background focuses on helping people overcome sexual shame and trauma from religion or abuse.
He certainly has a unique family that I'll leave out to protect his privacy. Immensely fascinating though! His passion to help others is evident in his daily practices.
I tried to capture the spirt of Nic, his own journey., and small elements of his Grandfather. He shared how proud he was of a few paintings he did, so I was sure to include small homages to those works. I appreciate the perspective and history he shared with me.
This stone in particular was a favorite, and kept calling to Nic during the painting. It wanted to be featured, so we brought it out to be celebrated.
I really enjoyed my time in San Diego, and if anything, I will need to stay longer next time! The people were friendly, the food was excellent, and the weather was perfect.
Maybe I'll have a few bookings there when I go on Tour next? ;-)

I actually appreciate and enjoy a good lengthy tangent done well, and you have succeeded. I'm actually super super bored of backdrops, which is why I try to jazz them up a little with special FX or painting on them directly. I'm hoping that the tour will give me opportunities to break out of my usual structure.

Nic looks great here. Apologies for my lengthy tangent. π There is a difference between shooting the subject in the studio or say a natural environment versus shooting the subject in their home. If the person is the canvas it is no different than seeing a painting in a gallery setting versus their home. Neither approach is right versus wrong. There is an additional layer of warmth/humanness to the person in their home as it provides context of the subject. Am reminded of a photographer who started taking portraits of people in their homes versus the studio to help burn through some old film stock and he found better emotional results from the project whilst working through the limitations and challenges of shooting in their homes. Have you considered a small separate project on such a concept? You like themes and βat homeβ is just that. Or, seeing Nic with the stone, βmementoβ might be a theme which could be the nexus of your collaboration with the subject. Run with βmementoβ in the future some time if you wish or chuck it in the bin with a heavy eye roll. π As always: βπ»π€.
