Bloodline chapter 3

The morning began as it often did, with Vernon and Dudley gorging themselves at the breakfast table, a larger-than-normal amount of food placed around the table while Petunia daintily consumed some odd salad concoction. As far as they were all concerned, they were the peak example of what men and women should look like. The Potters couldn't disagree more if they tried.
Harry and the twins walked into the kitchen and simultaneously rolled their eyes at the odd-shaped family in front of them before heading over to the kitchen counter and making themselves some food together. Unfortunately for them, they were noticed.
"What are the three of you doing?" Barked Vernon.
"Defusing a bomb," Harry said sarcastically while holding up a piece of bread. "What do you think we're doing? We're making breakfast,"
"You didn't wake on time to make our breakfast so don't for a second think that you can eat any of our food!" Vernon snapped at him after swallowing a large portion of food.
"Yeah," Dudley said smugly, bits of food dropping out his mouth. "No food for you," Iris and Dan paused halfway through making their own breakfast, staring at the Dursleys for a moment before staring up questioningly at Harry.
"Hurry up and eat," Harry told them, the two shared a look before nodding and continuing to make their food.
"Didn't you hear what your uncle said?!" Petunia demanded, looking up from her weird salad breakfast.
"Heard and promptly ignored," Harry replied.
"That's our food! If you want it then you have to work for it!" Vernon told him.
"We've worked years for less!" Harry glared at him. "And none of us will be doing any more work unless you want to make your son do some as well."
"You dare?!" Vernon stood up, his belly banging off the table. "After we took you all in?! Clothing and feeding you all from the goodness of our hearts -"
"Don't give me that bull," Harry snorted. "We've been your servants for years. Made your food, cleaned your house! You spent the bare minimum on us and treated us like second-class citizens, like dirt,"
"Which was considerably stupid given that all three of us are going to grow up to be people that can shape reality with a wave of a stick," Dan pointed out lightly whilst buttering some toast.
"We're not here because we want to be," Harry told them. "You stay out of our way and we'll stay out of yours,"
"Why are you all dressed up?" Petunia cut in, staring at the three, all of whom were dressed to go out. The twins were wearing Dudley's old clothes whilst Harry was dressed in black boots, grey jeans, a white shirt and a black jacket.
"We're going to visit Mum," Iris smiled brightly at Harry, Petunia looked like she swallowed something horrible. "And then we're going magic shopping!"
"You are not!" Bellowed Vernon. "There will be no more of that freak business in my house! One of you is bad enough! I won't have the two of you join in."
"You can't stop them," Harry said bluntly. "It's their birthright, if you really want to keep trying then I will exercise my right to float you as high into the air as possible and drop you on your neck," Harry told him before pulling out two letters with the Hogwarts crest on the envelope. "Their Hogwarts letters came yesterday, they're going to school, you have no say in the matter."
"I'd have plenty of say if I bloody wring your neck, brat!" Vernon stared daggers at Harry who looked decidedly unimpressed.
"I can and will turn you and your family into wombats, you fat shit," He said with a roll of his eyes. Vernon huffed and started moving forward, only to quickly grind to a halt when Harry pulled his wand out and aimed it at him. "What do you guys think?" Harry asked the twins. "Should I turn him into a pig or a walrus?"
"Pig," Iris answered immediately.
"Can you turn him into lots of little pigs?" Dan asked thoughtfully. "We could probably make some money selling him to different farms." Harry blinked and stared at Dan.
"I like it," He said approvingly before turning his attention back to a pale-faced Vernon who rather wisely sat down. "That's a good boy, Vernon, go and keep eating your way to that heart attack if you don't mind. We'll be eating now, and then we're gone, don't wait up for us."
"We won't," His aunt said, glaring at him.
"Can we buy some treats when we go out?" Iris asked Harry hopefully.
"Chocolates, sweets, as much as you want," Harry told her, she turned and smirked at Dudley who looked decidedly jealous at that. "Though, first things first, we're getting you out of those crap clothes."

"These feel so much better," Dan sighed happily as he stared down at his new clothes. He had a brand new pair of black trainers, blue jeans and a dark blue shirt along with an unzipped grey hoodie.
"Definitely," Iris agreed, staring down at her own clothes. Harry had brought her a pretty pair of white shoes, some black leggings and a light green dress that descended down to her knees along with a white jacket. "Thanks, Harry," She told him as they walked through the halls of St Mungos, walking past various witches and wizards. They witnessed some very odd sights, one man appeared to have swapped his legs with his arms. A woman had changed her lower half to that of a dog and one kid had a bowl attached to his backside.
"It's not a problem," Harry waved them off.
"Where did you get muggle money anyway?" Iris asked him curiously.
"Nicked it from Vernon," Harry told her honestly.
"Really?" She laughed.
"Yeah," He chuckled. "I figured after all we did for them, he could afford to pay for us this once."
"I won't tell him," Iris assured him with a grin.
"Never a doubt in my mind," He grinned back before leading the two to a room where a male healer appeared to be waiting for them.
"Ah, Mr Potter, good to see you again," The healer said to Harry before staring at the twins, his eyes lingering for a moment or two on Iris's scar before he turned back to Harry. "Your mother is ready for your visit, we've lowered the protective charms around her. She's perfectly stable and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with her. Her magic is steady too,"
"So the exact same as before?" Harry frowned.
"Unfortunately," The healer confirmed apologetically. "I am sorry, Mr Potter, we've tried everything we could think of. The only thing we can do now is hope that she wakes,"
"Hmm, hope..." Harry repeated as if testing the words. "...I suppose in a world of magic, that can be enough. Thank you," He told him before walking past him and into the room, followed by the twins.
Once inside, the family paused and took a moment to stare. The room was mostly bare, beyond a chair or two. The only noticeable thing in the room was the bed at the end, though the Potters were more focused on the woman in the bed. Resting upon it, as if she were merely asleep, was none other than Lily Potter. Magic and constant care made sure that the Potter mother had barely lost any weight since the attack, she looked just as Harry remembered her. A pretty face along with bright red hair that was kept at shoulder length by the doctors, she was dressed in a patient's robe and was covered from chest to feet by a bed sheet.
"Mr Potter," The healer said from outside of the room. "If any of you need anything then -" The door slammed shut on its own as Harry guided the twins closer to the bed.
"Say hi to Mum, guys," Harry told the two.
"Hi Mum," Iris smiled, reaching forward and touching Lily's face. "We missed you, Harry tells us tons of stories about you. We can't wait for you to wake up,"
"Iris has definitely got your hair," Dan noted, staring between the two females. Harry couldn't help but smirk at that, Dan was right after all.
Iris was an exact copy of their mother in many ways, she had the same hair and the same emerald green eyes that Lily did, the same eyes that Harry possessed. Harry himself had inherited his father's messy black hair, if not for his mother's eyes and a few different facial features, he could pass off as James's clone. Dan also looked remarkably similar to James, he had the same chocolate brown eyes and a similar face, though his hair was a shade of light brown that he had inherited from their grandmother, not that any of the twins had ever met their grandparents since they were all dead by the time the trio had moved in with the Dursleys.
Harry stayed in the back, content to watch as the twins talked with each other and their mother. He stayed silent for an hour or so, chiming in now and then with the odd comment, listening as the twins told their mother about their year and how excited they were to go to Hogwarts. Eventually, their time finished as a healer knocked on the door, informing them that their visiting time had come to an end. Iris and Dan grumbled but obeyed when Harry told them to leave the room. He walked over to his mother, leaned down and kissed her forehead before whispering into her ear.
"I will keep my promise," He said with conviction, staring right at her. "Even if I must burn this world to the ground and rebuild it brick by brick, I will keep my promise."

"I hate that bus!" Dan complained as they watched the Knight Bus wizz off. The 'Knight Bus' was a large, purple, triple-decked bus that transported stranded witches and wizards, it also served to be a fairly quick mode of transportation for those with limited travel options. The inside of it was just as odd as the outside, a large chandelier hung from the ceiling and instead of seats, there were beds, most of which were being used by sleeping witches and wizards. They had had the poor luck today of being placed next to a snorer.
"Don't worry about it, we can take a cab back if you don't want to go on it again," Harry told him.
"Don't be such a baby," Iris told Dan, lightly punching him on the shoulder. "I thought it was fun,"
"Yeah, well...you're crazy," Dan retorted.
"Easy kiddos, let's go before you two start fighting in front of the muggles," Harry said before guiding them down the street.
"So, Leaky Cauldron first, right?" Dan asked.
"Right," Harry confirmed. "It's right there," He said, pointing ahead to a dark, dingy-looking old place between a bookstore and a record shop.
"You mean that?" Iris asked with disbelief. "Are you sure?"
"Yep," Harry said, walking over to it with the twins quickly following after him. "It's just some spells," He whispered to them. "To make it look like crap so muggles don't go near it, most of them don't even notice it," He explained before he guided them in.
"Ah, I see what you mean," Dan blinked as he looked around, seeing a pub with lots of tables filled with various witches and wizards. All of them talking and chatting with one another, drinking and eating various foods and drinks.
"Ah, hello," A voice called. The twins saw an old, bald man standing behind a bar, using a bit of cloth to clean a glass cup. "Good to see you again, Harry," The man said, smiling at him before noticing the twins. "Bless my soul," He gasped. "It's -"
"Tom," Harry cut him off sharply before raising his finger to his mouth with the universal 'shush' gesture. "If you don't mind,"
"Ah, sorry," Tom blushed, looking quite sheepish.
"If we're quick with our shopping then maybe we'll come back here later to get some food," Harry told him in a slightly softer tone. Tom brightened up and nodded at Harry.
"It'd be my pleasure," He told Harry before staring down at the twins. "Welcome back to the wizarding world," He whispered to them.
"Thanks," Iris whispered back while Dan gave him a hesitant nod.
"Come on guys," Harry said, guiding them through the pub. Eventually, the trio managed to exit through it and found themselves in a small, walled courtyard with bits of rubbish scattered all around and a dustbin leaning against the brick wall.
"What was that about?" Iris couldn't help but ask.
"I told you, Iris, you are famous, like really famous," Harry explained as he pulled out his wand. "I'd rather not get mobbed,"
"Oh," Iris frowned, her brother had explained to her before that she was famous in the wizarding world and had even explained why she was famous, apparently she was celebrated for defeating Voldemort, the wizard that had attacked them. She knew that, but for a girl who had lived her whole life in the Dursley household, it was hard to imagine anyone being interested in meeting her.
"Now, watch this pattern carefully," Harry told them before tapping three different bricks on the wall. The wall shook briefly before it started opening, bricks moving and spinning out of the way. "Here we go, welcome to Diagon Alley," He said, pushing the two stunned eleven-year-olds forward.
"Wow," The two said at the same time. Standing in front of them, along a cobbled street, was a large collection of wizards and witches, roaming in between what seemed like a hundred shops. There were shops that sold magical sweets, brooms, clothes, magical pets and everything else you could imagine.
"Yeah," Harry smirked. "Come on, the first stop is Gringotts Bank," He said, pointing down the alley to a large white building that seemed to reach high up into the sky.
"The bank run by goblins?" Dan asked excitedly as the trio started walking forward.
"Yeah, goblins are small, sarcastic little buggers, not the nicest things but they at least won't bother you if you don't bother them. Not much at least. Go in, keep quiet, and neither of you speak unless spoken to. Got it?"
"Got it," The two said at the same time, keeping close to Harry whilst constantly looking around, seeking to absorb as much through their eyes as possible. Once they got close the two twins for their first look at a goblin when they saw the guards standing by the building's bronze doors, dressed in a scarlet and gold uniform. They were short, just under Harry's waist in height. Not much hair on their heads, pointy ears and noses along with very sharp, shark-like teeth. Arms that were longer than their legs with long fingers and sharp nails.
"Wicked," Iris whispered as they walked past them and into Gringotts bank which looked even larger and grand from the inside. The ceiling was a circular glass dome, counters stretched all the way to the other end of the room, each counter fitted with a goblin.
"I'll admit, I'm impressed," Dan told Harry.
"Day's not over yet," Harry grinned at him.

"I hate that bloody roller coaster more than the bloody bus!" Dan cursed as they exited the bank. After Harry showed his key to the goblins, the trio was escorted to one of the goblin-driven carts owned by Gringotts. The cart drove at high speeds, twisting and turning in every direction you could think of before it finally stopped outside of the Potter vault. Dan had all but leapt off the cart once it had stopped, and had rather reluctantly sat back on it once they had gotten the necessary amount of gold out of the Potter vault. The goblin that had escorted them had been very amused by him, especially when he insisted to Dan that the cart only had one speed.
Dan had been too busy clinging to Harry to shout 'bullshit'.
"Knight Bus is looking pretty good right now, eh?" Iris giggled.
"Shut it," Dan glared at her.
"Alright kids, don't fight yeah," Harry chuckled, ruffling both of their hairs. "Anyway, let's hit the rest of the shops, yeah?" He told them before they walked to a shop named 'Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions'. Once inside they spotted Madam Malkin, a short witch that was dressed completely in mauve.
"Ah, Mr Potter, welcome back," She greeted Harry before beaming brightly at the twins. "Ah, these will be the twins. A pleasure to meet you, Miss Potter. And you as well," She quickly added to Dan, sounding like she just remembered that he was there.
"Thanks," The young boy said dryly.
"Hogwarts robes for all of us, these two will also need two formal robes and two casual robes," Harry told her before more could be said. "I want their clothes to have all of them same spells you put on mine,"
"Of course, I'll just need to measure you all, it won't take more than ten minutes," She assured him. As she predicted, the trio left the shop less than ten minutes later, with Madam Malkin assuring them that their robes would be ready within the next two hours.
After that, they visited a few other shops to get the rest of their equipment such as their school trunks, quills and ink (Iris had gotten a bottle of ink that was charmed to smell like a different flower each time she wrote on it, meanwhile Dan had gotten a quill that could magically erase ink if you tapped it twice with a wand). When they got to the bookstore, Flourish and Blotts, Harry had to all but wrestle Dan out of the store as the young boy wanted to pick as many books as he possibly could. Harry stopped him from doing so, though he did let him take a few extra books, including a couple on hexes and curses.

"Alright," Harry spoke up after an incredibly important ice cream break. "Wand time, I think,"
"Finally!" Cheered Iris. "I can't wait!"
"Well, can you at least wait the one or two minutes it'll take to get us there?" Dan asked, completely serious.
"Possibly," She replied, sounding just as serious.
"Come on," Harry told them. "It's just up here," He said. A minute and a half later, they arrived outside of Ollivander's wand shop, an old-looking shop with a display case that held a few wands. Once they walked in they saw that the sides of the room were covered in shelves that were filled with wand boxes, there was a counter in front of them with a shopping register and a bell. Behind that counter were entire rows of shelves with more wands. The only other noticeable thing in the room was the small waiting chair by the display case.
"Place could use a bit of a clean," Dan frowned, staring at the large amount of dust all around the room.
"Indeed," Harry agreed before moving forward, he had barely begun reaching out for the bell when Mr Ollivander walked out from one of the shelves. "Ah, there you are, good to meet you again, Sir." Harry greeted him.
"Ah, I remember you, of course, Mr Potter," Mr Ollivander said, he was a sickly-looking old man with mad, white hair and even madder-looking eyes. "Dragon heartstring, aspen and blackthorn wood, quite fierce."
"That's right," Harry nodded before gesturing to his siblings. "Here are my brother and sister, it's time for them to get their own wands."
"Indeed," Ollivander breathed, staring hard at the twins before leaning over the counter to stare at the lightning-bolt-shaped scar on Iris's head. "I'm so sorry," He told her sincerely. "I'm afraid I sold the wand that did that," He said, gesturing to the scar. "He was a great wizard, terrible...but great. I had such high hopes for him, I -"
"Mr Ollivander, just the wands please," Harry cut him off, sounding a tad firmer than usual.
"Of course," Ollivander agreed with barely a pause. "Ladies first?" He asked.
"Dan will go first," Iris said, taking a step back and staring up at the old man.
"Very well," Ollivander said before stepping out from behind the counter and pulling out a measuring tape.
"You alright, Iris?" Harry whispered to her as Ollivander began performing a series of wildly different measurements, measuring seemingly random parts of Dan including the gap between his eyes.
"Yeah, it's just...well..." She paused, unsure how to politely phrase what she wanted to say.
"He's creepy?" Harry mouthed. Iris stared at him for a moment before looking at Ollivander who was measuring Dan's knee, she turned back to Harry and nodded. "Don't worry, I'm here, aren't I?" He whispered to her, pulling her into a side hug. She smiled and leaned into him.
"Give it a wave," Ollivander said, handing Dan a white-coloured wand.
"Hmm," Dan frowned before doing as he was told. The wand shot out of his hand and flew around the room several times before landing back in the box that Ollivander had taken it out of.
"Perhaps not," Ollivander said thoughtfully before taking out another wand box, he opened it to reveal another wand. "Try this one, lad." He said, holding out the wand for Dan. It was a brown wand with a carved spiral pattern, the handle had a trio of rune bands carved into it. The bottom of the wand had a dark blue marble pommel that looked like the night sky.
"Okay," Dan took the wand and a bright golden glow burst out from it as soon as Dan's hand made contact. "Whoa!" He blurted out, feeling a rush of energy.
"Excellent," Ollivander smiled, looking a couple of years longer. "A good match, young Potter. It's made of 'Cedar' with a 'Mammoth Ivory' handle, inside it is the wand core, a hair from a rather plucky unicorn. It's yours lad, use it wisely."
"Thank you," A stunned Dan replied, staring down at his wand like it was the secret to the universe itself.
"Iris," Harry said, gently nudging the girl forward. "Your turn,"
"I'm ready," She said, sounding determined.
"A good thing, Miss Potter," Ollivander said before the tape came out again. After several measurements, the last of which was the distance between her elbows to her knees, Ollivander began experimenting with wands.
What followed were several failed attempts, Iris ended up blowing up Ollivanders window, vanishing all the dust in the room, scorching the ceiling, bringing back all of the dust much to Dan's displeasure, and destroying Ollivander's chair. Iris began growing more and more worried with each failed attempt, not like Mr Ollivander who looked more excited at each and each failed attempt.
"Ooh! A tricky customer! I love those!" Ollivander said gleefully after repairing a large cut Iris had left in the floor. "Just like your brother, Miss Potter. He managed to get through nearly forty wands before we found a good match for him,"
"Really?" Iris asked Harry who gave her a small nod.
"I ended up vanishing Mr Ollivander's eyebrow," He revealed with an amused smile.
"Yes, but I got them back the next day," Ollivander said with a small chuckle as he handed Iris another wand. She stared at it for a moment before waving it, a few red sparks flew out but not much more than that. "Not a perfect match, but close, very close. Curious," Ollivander said, looking thoughtful.
"What's curious?" Iris asked, staring up at him.
"Miss Potter, I remember every wand I have ever sold," He told her. "I remember your father's, your mother's, even your grandparents. The phoenix that gave the feather for this wand, gave one more, just one other. The other feather belonged to the wizard that gave you that scar," He said, staring gravely at her. Iris froze, as did Dan, Harry narrowed his eyes at Ollivander and was about to speak when the old man continued. "I must admit, I didn't think that the wand would accept you. But should it have done so, it would not matter, Miss Potter. The wand chooses the witch or wizard, and the witch or wizard then chooses what they do with the wand. Remember that, Miss Potter, when you receive your wand you will have the ability to make the world a lot worse...or a lot better. It's your choice, always remember that young girl," He said, staring intently at her. She looked thoughtful for a moment, thinking upon what he said.
"I will," She said firmly, staring right back at him, meeting his gaze.
"Atta girl," He said proudly before staring down at the wand. "While this particular wand may not be for you, I think that we should stick with phoenix feathers," He said before pulling out his own wand and summoning a red box from one of the higher-up shelves. "Try this one," He told her before pulling out another wand. Iris took it and instantly gasped as rainbow-like sparks shot out from it.
"Wow, this feels amazing!" She gushed, staring down at the wand in her hand. It was a white wand with beautiful gold filigree, plus a handle that was slightly thicker in the middle for a better grip.
"I'm glad you like it, Miss Potter," Ollivander smiled brightly at her. "It's cherry wood with a dogwood handle, the core is from a phoenix that a friend of mine met in Arizona. It'll serve you well, dear lady,"
"Let's hope so," Harry said, looking at both of his siblings with a smile.

Whenever I have time to post is the schedule, basically. I wanted to post this yesterday but then guests came over and I didn't have time to write it. Plus with work and a family, I can't guarantee when I can write.

Do you think something like a dragon leather vest underneath their clothes would be something Harry might encourage to help keep them safe? At the very least, if someone tries to shoot a spell at their back?
