Chapter 28: Full Of Enemies
🕑 Added 2025-04-17 11:20:38 +0000 UTCEver since five of Menachel’s men were assassinated last time, Ambi has not arranged any new men for him, and Menachel has not been on field missions again. With this inexplicable tacit understanding, the two reached an agreement without words.
In order to make up for the vacancy caused by Menachel’s absenteeism, the already short-staffed Tylu Knights had to once again squeeze the labor of innocent subordinates, making their already scarce rest time even worse, so much so that in recent days, when Menachel was strolling around in the evening, he rarely saw knights meeting with ordinary residents in private.
Although he said he was just strolling around, Menachel wore his armor meticulously, even the head armor that he rarely wore after entering the city was worn neatly – this was a request made by Ambi, and Menachel was not brave enough to object to such a serious matter.
However, the overly eye-catching red armor immediately attracted the attention of most knights in the city, but few people stopped Menachel for this reason. The only reason was that they all respected the orders of Deputy Knight-Commander Ambi and ignored Menachel’s strange behavior.
That night, Menachel wandered aimlessly on the empty streets as usual. The streets were under a temporary curfew due to the war and were deserted except for a few knights wearing uniforms and visors.
For some reason, Menachel’s mood was a little complicated. He had a vague feeling that something big was going to happen, but he couldn’t concentrate. No matter what he did, the feeling of anxiety was always with him, just like the instinctive resistance of an animal facing a disaster.
Could it be that he was too tired in recent days and did not have enough rest time? Ordinary humans probably thought so, but Menachel could no longer be called a human being in the strict sense. Ever since he bathed in dragon blood and ate dragon meat, Menachel’s physique, which had been relatively stable due to the end of his growth period, had achieved an abnormal secondary growth. In terms of physical strength alone, Menachel was now closer to a dragon than a human.
Menachel once experimented and found that he could maintain a high level of concentration even without sleep for three days and three nights. As for what would happen after three days, it was unknown because Menachel thought there was no need to continue.
Therefore, Minasel is more inclined to believe that this anxiety stems from the perception of danger. Thinking of this, Minashel repeatedly pondered over what he had seen and heard in the past few days, trying to filter out the doubts.
Lost in thought, Menachel didn’t care at all that he was passing by a group of knights. As usual, Menachel’s body avoided the oncoming knights. At the moment when the two sides were about to cross each other, the knight closest to Menachel suddenly jumped up, and the knight’s dagger hidden in his hand rushed straight towards Menachel’s defenseless chest and abdomen.
Almost instantly, his thoughts returned to hia body. Menachel grabbed the dagger that was struggling against the hard armor, and with a slight force of his thumb and index finger, he bent and broke the blade. At the same time, he grabbed the attacker’s head armor with his backhand and threw it down with force.
The overly strong force caused the attacker’s body to bend in an exaggerated arc and fall downward, but the counterattack was not over. When the opponent’s body was leaning downward, Menachel had already kicked out, and when his foot collided with the head, the iron helmet instantly sank as if it was useless, turning into a pool of discus.
After finishing his attack, Menachel immediately crossed the body of the knight in his hand and placed it between himself and the other knights.
The four knights who had been moving a little suddenly became quiet, and three of them turned their attention to the other knight.
It seems that this is the leader.
Such a big commotion occurred in a city full of patrols, but until now no sound of footsteps of anyone coming has been heard. This is very unusual and made Menachel alert.
“This kind of hardness is worthy of being made of dragon scales.”
Menachel looked in the direction of the voice and saw that the speaker was the knight who had just led the team. The other party slowly took off his head armor, revealing a middle-aged male face that looked familiar but whose name he could not remember.
Menachel blinked his eyes. He had not been in office for long, and there were not many people he found familiar. In addition, as the man in front of him had just mentioned, “armor made of dragon scales”, he seldom showed off his mythical armour to others.
“Are you Chamo?”
When Menachel said this name, it was as if a thin “membrane” between the two of them was torn apart, and that strange sense of familiarity immediately dissipated.
Compared to the high spirits he showed when they last met, Chamo looked much more depressed at this moment. Menachel’s eyes gradually became vague as he remembered that he had almost killed all of his knights in his attempt to rescue King Arthur.
“It’s amazing, isn’t it?”
Chamo had no intention of accusing him. He held the sword at his waist with one hand and walked forward step by step. His voice was really hoarse: “Magic is an amazing miracle. Just a small magic trick performed by a magician can determine the outcome of a war.”
Menachel also reached for the sword at the same time, but did not move. Perhaps out of the final guilt, he did not take action directly, but listened quietly to Chamo’s intoxicated words.
He keenly caught the key words in Chamo’s words, and the complicated thoughts in his mind connected in an instant, and his face immediately turned ugly.
Previously, he just ignored it because the offender looked familiar, but the appearance of Chamo shattered Menachel’s last fantasy of “familiarity” – there was a curfew at night, and ordinary civilians simply did not have the courage to come out, so who were the civilians who frequently met with the knights in the city in private?
Hearing the sound of breaking air, Menachel almost subconsciously took a half step back, and the cold light brushed his abdomen and sank into the ground.
The figure of Chamo In front of him twisted and disappeared, and when he reappeared, he had retreated three steps away. He held a strangely shaped curved-blade knight sword in both hands. The frightening purple lines on the sword showed its extraordinariness.
Clang—
The sound of glass breaking came from the purple curved blade, and cracks instantly spread throughout the entire sword body.
Menachel’s face changed. Starting from the place where he was hit in the abdomen, the dragon scale armor that he was so proud of suddenly began to emit purple flames. Under the burning flames, his armor seemed to be melting.
“Sir Menachel, no one may be your match in a one-on-one fight.” Chamo put the sword back to his waist, and with a swish, the three knights beside him immediately came forward with weapons in hand, and Chamo himself did not stop and retreated in the opposite direction of Menachel.
At this moment, a roar suddenly came from the distance. Menachel didn’t have time to think about it. He didn’t even pay attention to the purple flames burning on his body. He held the weapon in both hands and swept the sword. The three knights attacking from three directions were split in half along with their weapons.
As a knight, Menachel knew very well what that roaring sound was – it was the sound of the city gate being opened. Someone, or the enemy, had lowered the city gate, and outside the city, one didn’t need to guess to know that it must be the rebels who were pretending to “withdraw”.
He took off his burning belly armor as he ran. He had to recapture the city gate as quickly as possible – before the rebel troops had completely entered the outer city.
But before Menachel could take a few steps forward, several low sounds of breaking through the air were quietly approaching.
Several arrows simultaneously attacked Menachel’s defenseless chest and abdomen.
