Chapter 7: Trying to make a fire
🕑 Added 2025-04-12 04:00:20 +0000 UTCIn a peaceful and comfortable utopia, in a dense and towering forest that looks like a primitive jungle, a beast is rampaging recklessly, destroying the static beauty.
Those trees that have become particularly thick and strong under the nourishment of magic power are like nothing under its trampling. This is a creature similar to a cheetah. Except for its physique that is particularly conspicuous in the forest because of its excessive size, it is no different from an ordinary big cat.
But even so, its chilling strong muscles and a sturdy body that is almost as strong as an ordinary dragon are enough for it to dominate this area.
But the hideous wounds on its body that are slowly dripping with blood clearly show that at this moment, this magic beast is running at the maximum speed not to hunt but to escape.
Behind it, there is an even more terrifying predator approaching.
It is a bipedal beast that has just entered this area. It has never seen such a ferocious predator that kills just for killing.
“Found you.”
Perhaps it was out of fear, or perhaps it was simply because the constantly consuming physical strength finally made this ‘overlord’ reach its limit. At this moment, the cheetah slowly stopped and let out a low growl full of warning from the depths of its throat, but combined with the serious injuries at this time, it would only make people feel that this was the last struggle of the trapped beast.
A lazy smile appeared on Menachel’s face. He half-squinted his eyes and glanced at the monster that was baring its teeth at him. He slowly pulled out the knight’s sword from his waist, and pointed the tip of the sword directly at the monster in front of him.
He gently raised the tip of the sword, and even the monster with a low IQ could clearly see the provocation and disdain of the “two-legged beast” in front of him.
The pain of the wound and the stimulation of the smell of blood made the monster’s eyes congested. It let out a last roar and rushed towards the two-legged beast in front of it.
Faced with such a situation, Menachel stretched out a hand and pressed the monster’s head. Without waiting for the cheetah to struggle, he pressed it to the ground with his hand, and at the same time, the other idle hand held the sword and raised it down. The monster was beheaded in the blink of an eye.
“It’s quite brave.”
Menachel slowly released the monster’s head. He fumbled for a small wooden blade and cut the monster’s chest and abdomen piece by piece under the magic power.
The Ingredients for today’s dinner are almost ready.
Menachel weighed the palm-sized piece of meat. Of course, he couldn’t just eat this little bit, so he killed a few more so-called “overlords” nearby.
As the body grows, the help provided by these demons becomes less and less, and even the meat quality of other parts of the monster is not helpful except for the core part.
In order to make full use of the “physical strengthening” twice a day, Menachel had to kill a few more monsters to replenish his physical strength during the regular hunting every day. He also regarded eating as a part of tempering his body, which was why he became better every day.
He set up the wooden frame before the sun set. Menachel did not have the convenient ability to make fire at will like Teacher Merlin, so he had to take the most primitive method and use a “lighter” – he kept a monster that could make fire.
Since the “lighter” was just acquired, the little thing was still a little emotional, but after Menachel removed one of its legs, the little earth dragon became well-behaved today.
Looking at the simple grill in front of him, Menachel carefully maintained the blade. Even when making dinner, it was not the time to relax – the firelight and the smell of meat would sometimes attract uninvited guests.
Sure enough, before Menachel sat down, a few faint rustling sounds came as expected. The hand holding the sword quietly clenched, but the other hand continued to clean the blood on the blade very naturally, quietly waiting for the lurker’s attack.
“Hehe!”
This was obviously not Menachel’s own voice, his “little lighter” couldn’t help but shout out first.
Shadows moved, flames flickered. The lurker approached almost instantly.
The speed was faster than expected, so Menachel didn’t even have time to adjust his body’s direction. He saw three cold rays of light grabbing his head from the corner of his eye.
He only had time to block it with his sword, but the hasty defense made Menachel unable to exert any strength before he was pushed out. Almost out of instinct, Menachel rolled on the ground a few times, and while dissipating the strength, he also turned over and picked up the three-legged little Asian dragon to block in front of him.
The attacker whimpered softly, and the little Asian dragon in Menachel’s arms also let out a low howl again.
It seems that the “parents” have arrived.
This is a common occurrence. Similar things often happened to the previous “lighters”, so Menachel has learned how to deal with it.
As if it was afraid of the consequences, the adult dragon did not attack Menachel again. On the dry grass pile, its feet rubbed the ground, and its red eyes stared at the dragon cub in Menachel’s hand.
Menachel showed a thoughtful look. When the opponent launched the second attack, he decisively threw out the “lighter”. The attacker immediately stopped the attack and the claw shadow that came to grab it turned into a hug, stopping the little dragon.
But the battle was over after only a moment of hesitation. In the flash of sword light, the magic sword slashed down diagonally, drawing a blood line, and the attacker was cut in half from shoulder to abdomen along with the child in his arms.
Today’s maintenance was in vain.
Menachel looked at his knight sword with regret. The burning dragon blood on it seemed to corrode the blade, making the already old sword even more unbearable. He picked up the hay on the ground and sucked the dragon blood on the blade, and then Menachel approached the two dragons again.
The attacker was an adult dragon nearly as tall as a human. It was estimated that it was the father or mother of the little dragon. The dragon’s claws were cut. Although the cub was always held in its arms, it still did not escape death.
The magic reserve of ”overnight meat” would be much less. I could only reward myself tonight so as not to regret the top-grade material that was delivered to my door.
Apart from a small part of the dragon meat, Menachel still took the part of the dragon that was easy to carry back to the camp. The monsters nearby were becoming more and more difficult to catch. Perhaps these “inferior meats” could be used as bait for hunting.
But soon Menachel paused. Due to the brief confrontation just now, the campfire had been extinguished. Judging from the current situation, Menachel might not be able to make a fire on his own.
After trying to make fire by drilling wood without success, Menachel looked at the cheetah meat that was previously on the fire and was now half-cooked or not cooked at all and fell into deep thought.
Now the “lighter” is dead, and even the tool dragon for “testing poison” is gone.
Throwing the meat and the dragon’s body together with disgust, Menachel turned and left the makeshift camp.
He wanted to go to the end of the forest again.
