[EN]SHOWTIMExMONSTERS 2 Dev Letter [vol.29]
🕑 Added 2022-03-20 09:09:49 +0000 UTCHello, I'm Satoh.
It is now March and the weather in Japan is getting warmer and warmer.
Still, the virus has not yet been contained, and the world is in a state of chaos.
I continue to work with the hope that the world will return to normalcy as soon as possible.
――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
After finishing the monster design for the 5th stratum and illustrations for the event scenes, this month I have been focusing mainly on map creation.
SxM is a game in which exploring dungeons is the main play, so I want to make sure
that the maps are not only visually appealing, but also that they are fun to play and comfortable without being overly stressful.
This is the part that is generally referred to as level design:
What kind of mechanism should be used, how should the monsters be placed, how should the map be laid out, how far apart should the pathways be placed, and so on.
I am always racking my brains to create dungeon maps because it is an important part of making an interesting game.
In 2, I used various techniques to express the map to realize motifs that were not in 1, so I hope you can enjoy a higher quality dungeon.
I am very satisfied with the 5th stratum's map as well, and I can't wait for the day when you can enjoy it.
Next to making the map, I move on to the process of creating the skillsets for the monsters of the 5th stratum.
This is also a very mind-boggling task at each stage.
I will do my best to make sure that their abilities are as unique as their appearance.
This time, I'd like to introduce two of the main characters' costumes and a new monster.
――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
This is an oriental style costume for Toma.
It is a Chinese-style jacket with black tights.
I tried to create a silhouette that would give the impression of Toma's scholarly intelligence.
This is an oriental style costume for Ios.
I tried to design it as an oriental fantasy-style costume, while keeping the base color scheme.
This is one of the new monsters, Martial Panda.
He is an attacker-type monster who fights with Chinese martial arts and is characterized by his black-and-white coloring and large round glasses.
――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
This time, with sincere gratitude for you, supporters,
I drew a "Colorful Spring"-themed special illustration for you.
This is Jelly Slime from Sweets Monsters.
I drew this with the image of brightly colored spring.
Jelly Slime, the most colorful of the slimes, is a slime that has been transformed by taking in sweet syrup.
He is a bright and fun monster who rips off the sweet jellybeans that have been changed from slime and shares them with you.
There are many types of slime monsters,
but all of them are the result of the transformation of ordinary slime by taking in some kind of liquid or object.
New slime monsters will be added in the second game as well, so please look forward to them.

That's all for this letter.
I'll post vol.30 on around 2022/4/20.
The weather is getting warmer, but the nights are still chilly.
I hope you are well enough to stay in good health.
I, too, would like to enjoy the fragrance of spring while working hard on the game.
