'I can't believe this was here.'
Yuder carefully picked it up. The wooden piece had tiny letters engraved on it, which Yuder couldn't decipher. Kishiar smiled, seeming to have the same thought as Yuder.
"It seems it's not only in the pharmacist's area," he remarked.
"It appears so," Yuder replied. "Have you seen records written in such places before, Commander?"
The moment Yuder absentmindedly brought his fingertips to the engraved letters, the letters distorted, and something vaguely reflected in Yuder's Eye of Magic. Before he could recognize what it was, unknown content suddenly rushed into his mind.
'...If you come back here again, and if the purpose of your visit was something that couldn't be easily achieved here, sitting here would be the last thing you do...'
"Yuder?"
Thud.
At Kishiar's call, the wooden piece fell from Yuder's stiffened hands. Only then did his mind clearly return, and the content that had just brushed through his head also disappeared.
"Ah."
What was that just now?
"What's wrong? Your eye turned golden."
Kishiar asked, examining Yuder with a cautious expression. Yuder racked his brain to explain the strange thing he had just experienced in a way that could be understood.
"I brought my hand over the letters, and for a moment, it seemed like I saw something. It felt like a strange thought flashed through my mind... It's hard to explain. I was a bit startled."
"It seems it wasn't just a simple record but an object with unknown magic overlaid on it."
Kishiar turned his head towards Enon. Enon was crouching among the wooden pieces, concentrating so intensely that his appearance was hard to see.
"Enon. There's something here."
"..."
Even when Yuder called, he didn't respond. Seeing this, Kishiar pondered for a moment and reached out his hand.
"I'll take a look at it for a moment too."
However, even when Kishiar touched the wooden piece, he didn't experience the same phenomenon as Yuder. The man, who carefully flipped it back and forth several times, made a humming sound and opened his mouth.
"I can definitely tell it's not an ordinary piece of wood. It seems like there's a very thin and fine flow of magic on the surface. But that's it."
"Isn't what's written on it ancient language? Commander, you can read ancient language, so just by looking at it..."
"Unfortunately, it's not complete ancient language, so it's difficult for me to read too. It's common for mages to use codes only they know."
"I see."
"There must be a separate way to read this. The pharmacist probably knows that method and can easily see it, and you can see through it a little with your Eye of Magic."
When Enon first talked about the Eye of Magic, he explained that it was an ability that usually appeared in great mages, but until now, Yuder honestly couldn't feel how great this eye was. At best, his eye had become brighter than before in the dark, making it more comfortable.
However, after easily seeing through great mage Luma's magic twice with the eye, even though he didn't know much about magic, he couldn't help but feel that he had indeed gained something tremendous. It felt a bit surreal rather than good, perhaps because it wasn't an ability he had tried to obtain himself.
'If I hadn't absorbed Kishiar's magic in the first place, I wouldn't have gotten this... It's a bit absurd that only I can see it. Anyway, I now understand a little why Enon said this was so great.'
When he touched the wooden piece, it felt a bit strange, but he didn't sense any danger. Then, would it be okay to examine it a bit more until Enon came to his senses?
"I'll take a closer look at this. It doesn't seem like it'll happen, but if I appear to be in danger, please help me come to my senses."
"That's something I'll naturally do even if you don't ask. Be careful."
Kishiar didn't stop him, perhaps making the same judgment as Yuder. Yuder reached out his hand again and grasped the wooden piece. The moment his fingertips touched the letters, his vision wavered again, and information began to enter his mind.
'The future I can predict is extremely limited, but if you come here to find me, I know there's only one reason for that.'
'My guardian. Have you determined it's time to keep the promise I asked of you?'
Like reading a book without a voice, the silent letters swept through his mind like the wind. Yuder bit his lip hard to focus on the rapidly passing text, like a horse in full gallop. As the light of his golden Eye of Magic intensified, more content began to flow in succession.
'The land where I asked you to gather the surviving humans and protect them was the land where the flow was least distorted.'
'We built seven walls and helped maintain that balance for as long as possible. Like placing pillars under a fragile plate.'
'Nothing can stand forever, but even knowing that, is it the fate of finite humans to struggle to delay it as much as possible?'
'If the time my dear friend was concerned and fearful of has returned, we'll see how effective that struggle was.'
'Though I won't be able to see it.'
The letters pass through his mind like light. But strangely, in some sense, it felt like a voice.
The calm yet unknowably warm voice of an unknown being. That intangible voice gradually resounded in Yuder's mind and began to tap rapidly.
'So I entrusted everything to you.'
'But our promise won't be eternal either. Like everything else.'
'Guardian. If you still think it's worth keeping your promise to me.'
'If you came here because you still think that land is worth protecting.'
'Then shed your body and return to where you originally belonged.'
'Then, at least the place you protect...'
'As far as our power reaches...'
'Will not crumble until the very end...'
"...Hey!"
Yuder came to his senses at the hand gripping his shoulder. Enon, who had come at some point, was in front of him.
"Snap out of it. I left you alone for a moment, and you couldn't resist!"
"Are you okay?"
Kishiar, who had been carefully examining Yuder beside Enon, gently stroked his hand and asked. Yuder blinked a few times and slowly nodded.
"...Yes. I think... I'm fine."
"I can't believe this! What did you see? And where did you find this?"
Enon snatched the wooden piece from Yuder's hand.
"I found it inside the desk drawer. I touched it without thinking, and the content somehow... appeared. It entered my mind... I was trying to examine it a bit more."
"This can only be read by moving the magic power in Luma's way. I didn't know someone with an Eye of Magic could see it just like that... Ha."
"It didn't feel that dangerous... Was it a dangerous object?"
At Yuder's question, Enon frowned.
"It's fine if you just touch it! But if an incompetent mage tries to use the wrong method of magic detection on this, it becomes a disaster from then on. It'll suck out all their magic power, and they'll die."
"..."
Yuder's gaze inevitably turned to Kishiar's face.
'It's fortunate Kishiar didn't use magic on this wooden piece.'
Of course, being adept with ancient magic tools, he would have naturally predicted that level of danger. Still, it was fortunate that he only examined it for a very short time before letting it go.
Yuder let out a small sigh and opened his mouth.
"If the information I read isn't wrong, that wooden piece. It seems to be a letter left by great mage Luma for you."
"...What?"
For a moment, Enon froze with an expression Yuder had never seen before.
