🕑 Added 2020-12-21 16:01:01 +0000 UTCAlso known as fools or court jesters, jesters are specialized entertainers who act as members of a noble or monarch's household staff. They also entertain the common folk in town and at marketplaces, and often travel with troupes or carnivals.
Generally, a jester wears motley clothing, eccentric hats, and makeup or masks that makes a caricature of a strong emotion such as happiness or sadness. They're prone to outbursts of singing, joke-telling, or even speaking in riddles. Many jesters learn basic bardic spells, too, which they use to enhance their performances. Unlike bards who use instruments as their arcane foci, jesters will use garish wands, their hats, or other bizarre implements to cast their spells.
