October is approaching and along with it Halloween! Will we get treats or tricks? I don’t know - but I’m not the least bit scared, you hear? It’s just another opportunity to dress up like I do every time I marathon the books and movies. Only difference is I can do it in public!
What does have me shaking in my boots is the last movie. The end is nigh! NIGH! Don’t sell our regular cast short either! The villains especially - i hated voldie, i hated the dursleys, i hated snape, i hated bellatrix, i hated the malfoys. Masterful work from all of them. Only one that didn't bubble up the bile was surprisingly Dudley - as an aside, barely recognised Harry Melling at the prem!

David Yates has commenced pre-production on WB’s latest revision of Red Riding Hood slated for release 2011. Interesting fact: Gary Oldman is also part of the cast.
Karen Gillan is the current contemporary to the latest Dr Who on the BBC. Amy Pond has rapidly cemented herself as a fan favourite.
Emma Watson has signed on for her second independent Hollywood production, she plays lead alongside George Clooney. Set to start filming this November, to be released late next year.
Bas Rhys has no confirmed projects as of yet. There were murmurings about him rejoining the fast and furious franchise, reprising his role as Sean Boswell, but that fell through.

Nah @RefriedBertieBotts its just a few culprits too obsessed and too online. The one upside with the movies ending is that certain members lose their reason to complain. I enjoyed the run up to the movie for sure. Always fun seeing the cast in interviews - you can tell thems having a good time.

What's crazier is that Bas ain't that diff in person. Got to meet him this summer when I managed to snag those incredibly overpriced tickets for the Universal park premiere. He took us on all the rides and never complained even when we draped ourselves over him, treating him like one!

Fair enough. Good feedback for the future. To me at least they serve as a recap, a pulse on Bas' rep with fans and haters alike, and I get to disseminate some important info in key tidbits without having to dedicate a slower chapter to that info. And using all that to maybe even to a little seed sowing. But looking into a new format isn't a bad idea. I have a real fan POV planned for the DH2 premiere.

I still prefer fan PoV format. It's more engaging and accomplishes more or less the same. And it seems he's had a rough year. The filming was pretty rough in OtL for Deathly hallows. Here he almost died, his relationship was kind of crap and they're trying to fuck over Anita and him. Hope he still gets to do limitless but tbh seems he could do with a vacation first

True, though who knows how many jumped on that bandwagon at Ben's firm. Bas wasn't willing to take out loans against his assets shorting the market, he just used up all his available currency. Would Ben, his bosses, coworkers or Anita be more daring? I can't remember whether Ben got that promotion before or after the crash but it would make sense

I'm not a fan of the format either but this is the story of a celebrity. Public perception of him has to be known beyond his inner circle. I had hopped for a film critic or a casting director insight by now since his future seems to have stalled for some yet to be named reason. But, if he's going to be leaking info ahead of the studio, an online forum would be the place. Although Twitter might be the more publicized option.

The way I see it, you need to source the CDS from some banking institution. And to turn a profit, you have to sell it right back to them. I doubt Ben cared much about anonymity that he would use multiple sources. So all of his transactions would be in the financial statement. That's the trail. In fact the bank would certainly do an internal investigation of their own (required by government for tax purposes iirc). Figure out who profited off of them the most. Ben should easily be in the top 5. And the author of The Big Short should have access to that information through his connections.

I'd like to see the big short as well but unless someone leaks it illegally from government sources. He hasn't really made any big purchases that would make his networth look more than twice as large as speculated based on Uniqlo, Netflix, HP salary and dividends would indicate. Would they break the law to find out Bas Rhys financial history, and if so would they leak it on a HP forum and not sell/tip the info it to an investigative reporter or some big magazine?

No, I mean how he owns approx 2% of both Uniqlo and Netflix. And grew them exponentially through the Potter franchise. Though, the subprime crisis profit should come out as well. You can't hide hundreds of millions in profit legally. Someone has to have sniffed out the trail. Just that I'm afraid they'll credit Ben and not Bas. I'd be pretty disappointed if The Big Short doesn't mention them.

I find them kind of quaint. Forums akin to the "PHO" used to be practically the only avenue for discussion and news for niche topics back in the early days of the internet. If done well these chapters frame the discourse around the story without devolving into 'exposition/reaction' dumping. Personally this chapter doesn't do much for me, but I'm not categorically opposed to the format.

I feel the same way about "history book" interludes prose in fandoms like Asoiaf. The only purpose PHO has is to show what the fans are privy to, maybe guess at any scheming bas is upto behind the scenes like outing Jeff anonymously. haven't developed a pet peeve about PHO yet but author hasnt used it much. Would prefer a fan POV for the exposition

John McCrae wrote 1.4 million words of Worm and had a single PHO interlude, yet for some reason fic authors seem to think they should have one every other chapter. They don't advance the plot, they don't add to characterization, and they're not funny. Any story (even a stellar one like this) is made worse by their inclusion.
