Well i think i'd disagree here. George was able to get rid of the itchiness, which was most of the curse, simply by dressing up in feminine clothes and wearing makeup. That doesn't necessarily mean she's adapted to wearing them. She still felt embarrassed and uncomfortable, but it was much better than nonstop incessancy, which I feel could drive anyone to madness. He also spent weeks trying to not give in and fully give in to the desires of his new body. So while not super slow, it wasn't exactly a quick adaptation for the most part.
