His appointment as High Priest proved that Immertep was no fool. Even though the brain had been eaten, the soul remained, and the body itself was discarded.
"Since you wish to learn magic, I will grant you my magical powers. The process will be extremely painful, but you must persevere and become my assistant," Immertep said in a cold, even somewhat cruel, tone.
Hefeis had no idea what he was about to face. It was a terrifying prospect. He only knew he was about to gain magic. The thought of obtaining legendary magic, this coveted superpower, made him tremble with excitement. Even at his age, he couldn't get an erection. Even pursuing beauty wouldn't work. He had partnered with Rice solely because of his familiarity with antiquities and ruins. It now seemed his judgment was sound; at least this deal had paid off. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, High Priest. You are my master. Please grant me supreme magical power!"
Upon hearing this, Immertep's smile grew even more cruel. "Very well, in that case, I will grant you magical power and make you a priest!" With a wave of his hand, several strips of white cloth bound Hefeis, tightening them tightly until only his mouth was exposed for breathing.
"Ah, Master, what are you doing?" Hefeis was confused. Was he planning to kill him?
"Haha, this is the quickest way to become a lich!" Immertep sneered. With a wave of his hand, he tossed Hefis into the coffin. He waved again, and the ground cracked, sending a swarm of scarab beetles swarming out. Following their guidance, they rushed into the coffin, encountering Hefis, who had been entangled like a mummified corpse, and immediately burrowed in.
The scarab beetles burrowed into Hefis's body, devouring his flesh and blood, just as they had devoured Immertep.
High Priest Immertep continued to chant incantations as a surge of dark power surged into the coffin. Hefis's screams grew even louder. This insect-devouring torture was not something anyone could endure. Dark magic imprisoned his soul, using utterly vicious methods to unleash its potential.
Dark magic amplified his soul's pain; pain and resentment were its best nourishment. Anger, further anger, turned to fury, and finally to impotent rage!
Immertep sneered, nearly dying of laughter as he watched the venomous cries of spirits emanate from the sealed coffin. Finally, someone was enduring the same pain as him. It was a shame they were only mortals. If they were priests, they could probably become a lich with considerable power. How far they could reach now depended on the situation. If they were comfortable, he wouldn't mind teaching them a few tricks.
After a while, there was movement on the other side. Immertep thrust his hand through the air, and a figure emerged from the corner. It was none other than the surrendered lackey from the first film, a shifty-looking white man with a beard. His name was Beni, a typical white opportunist, all about stealing and doing nothing else. He'd planned to steal first, then think about the rest. Now, instead of getting the chicken, he was facing death.
Seeing the hideous mummy, Beni trembled with fear. He pulled out the necklace hanging from his neck again, which contained a Buddha statue, a cross, and some strange religious amulets.
Immertep simply looked at him with a playful gaze, his behavior no different from that of a fool. "Do you want to die?"
"Ah!" Beni was stunned by the question. He couldn't react. A mummy actually speaking human language? Was it even a mummy? But he quickly realized something, for he saw the displeasure in his eyes, a crucial signal for a man so adept at reading expressions. "Yes, very much. My lord, do you need my help? I can help you!"
Immertep smiled grimly. Meanwhile, a scarab beetle burrowed into his mouth. Its bony head gnawed the beetle to death, leaving it in a sludge that fell to the ground. He had no stomach, no way to digest it. "Very well. If you help me, I'll give you gold." He clenched his right hand, and a pile of gold appeared on the bones. The rotten bones, still covered with gauze, were filthy and disgusting.
"Understood, sir, rest assured. I will do my best to complete it. Is there anything you need me to do?" Beni said tactfully. He took the gold and squeezed it, finding it genuine gold, not a drop of water, incredibly solid!
"Find the people who opened Chamber One. Do you know them?" Immertep said in a cold voice. To regain his human form, he had to absorb the four cowboys who opened the urn. Because of the spell, his internal organs were contained within it. When the urn was opened, the gases within had been absorbed into his body. Therefore, to regain his human form, he had to absorb the bodies of others.
"You mean Benny, Boshen, and the others? I know, I know. They'll definitely go back to the inn in town. Master, just go there and find them. Just in case, I want to explore the way." Beni showed no shame. A friend's death is better than a poor Taoist's. After all, it was someone else who died, and it had nothing to do with him. Death is death, no matter.
"Very good! Do this well, and you'll receive even greater rewards!" Immertep nodded, then transformed into a hurricane, carrying Beni away.
In the empty tomb, only the spirit of Hafiz still screamed, tortured by dark magic, and ultimately transformed into a loyal lich!
Elsewhere, Chen Luo had already left with his men. The protagonists, O'Connor, knew someone who owned a private airship that could quickly take them across the desert to the oasis.
