dumb gate in apothecary is fancy ancient chinese dragon weeping for the grasshoper morning dew symbolic meaning stuff. they put a lot of subtext into architecture (arguably more than anything else). one time an emperor tried to deny his prince the throne by trying to make him enter the forbidden city through a gate with 72 tacks instead of 81. or 8x9 instead of 9x9. it's not necessarily that the gates are special, but 9 is the number for kings. the gate in the anime would bar someone from walking on the center line to the house, heavenly/kingly status people should walk on the center line for things so by using is politics
