I have to disagree. I liked the Power System and world building a lot. For example him using materials from different Monsters to unlock new shields. Or how the Hourglasses work and that they are all over the world, not just in one area. Overall the concept and story grappled me and I even read the manga up to where it was at the time (in the middle of spirit turtle arc) and i liked it

If you look up reviews on the light novel, there are lots who say that the light novel is good in the beginning but quickly gets trash sadly. And if the original material already sucks, it's not easy to make the adaption that much better.
