"GOOD MORNING CANDACE," everyone present looked up and intoned in imperfect unison.

“Okay, knight is the only funny one. It goes like this,” he explained as he paused the clocks. Walking her through every piece’s motions as well as some strange exceptions such as castling, en passant, explaining checkmate, stalemate, and all that jazz, the proud state champ was becoming noticeably slower and droolier as Candy continued to absorb, consume, and positively devour the knowledge he was providing.

Playing against a machine was certainly intimidating but the drawback with an electronic chess-playing mind was that it lacked the creativity and intuitive sparks of brilliance which characterized the very best chess players of all time.
From a cursory glance at her books, she’d learned that a particularly famous chess Master had insisted that his most important Cold War-era match be televised; his prize money had been somewhere in the millions of dollars. Previous to that time, chess had not been such a glamorous or profitable endeavor, but that particular champion had seemingly changed the dynamic. There was serious prize money to be made in this sport. And with millions of dollars… well, Candy had always wanted to be a businesswoman of sorts. That kind of capital would be a welcome jumping-off point to future success. How hard could winning possibly be for her?
Sadly, Irvine High was seriously lacking in the kind of appropriate venue and computing access that her high-profile chess match would require. She needed to look elsewhere. What to do? Where to go...?
Well, why not head to the nearest college? UCI had plenty of high-powered information-technology setups and wasn’t that far away by car. The trip would be an easy breezy flight for the world’s one and only SuperGenius!
Popping a cube of DoubleBubble Bubblegum into her mouth, she chewed loudly and called up the collegiate chess club. After reaching its president, she boldly declared her intent to set up with XXX and broadcast it live to the world.
“What’s your USCF rating?” the president asked. “How come we haven’t heard of you?”

“Is this a prank?! You say you beat a high schooler and now you want to play against a semi-sentient chess supercomputer now!? You’ve gotta be kidding me!”
After his ignorant farrago of insults, Candy immediately tapped the button to activate the video camera on the call.
“Now what?!” The president of the UCI chess club demanded as he accepted the opening of a video link.

The neural scientists who have scanned my brain classify this remarkable cognitive organ up here–” she tapped the side of her head with her index finger “--as a ‘Heuristically-Expanding Panmnetic Mental Singularity.’ What does that mean?” Candy asked rhetorically.
Before the poor dimwit could stammer a reply, she was already answering. “To summarize it crudely, my transcendental, one-of-a-kind brain turns knowledge into power. And the more power that I have, the more knowledge that I can get. Candy flew to campus and landed at the specially appointed room where the match would take place. She quickly surveyed the anechoic walls and ceiling which were lined with rows upon rows of black, lookalike anti-radiation spikes which protected her opponent from any wayward radio signals that could upset its liquid-cooled computing core. After appreciating the solemnity and security of the competition’s venue, she glanced in the corner and scoffed at the chess club president. Cameras were pointed at the regal chessboard in the center of the room. And her opponent, a supercomputer, plugged into multiple cooling systems and itself an ominous, towering block of pure computational prowess, fully equipped with a mechanical arm to move the pieces itself, sat opposite. Capable of performing over 400 petaFLOPS, its tightly-packed array of CPUs required constant circulation of chilled fluid to prevent overheating and had also attained top certification for several different supercomputing performance benchmarks. Its databanks stored a million million pre-recorded chess matches and every strategy in existence, but its subroutines were also capable of instantaneously weighing the most critical and likely original new paths towards victory in any possible game scenario.
“At last.” Candy smiled mellifluously. “I may have found a decent competitor.”
The young wunderkind pushed her chair back, fluffed out her hair, crossed her hyper-developed legs, and lowered her pert ass to kiss the lucky seat below it. As she made herself comfortable, an unseen announcer could be heard introducing the match to the millions of eyeballs who had begun tuning in.

The computer’s pieces advanced inexorably forward using fields of interlocking protection. Candy held a finger tightly against her temple and concentrated while seemingly languishing on the defensive the whole time. She was forced to defend against constant subtle threats while her best pieces remained passive. She managed only a few timid probes into enemy territory to blunt the steady offense. After a prolonged battle in which the computer rarely struggled, Candy nonetheless managed to assemble a consolidated fortress of white pieces in a secure little stronghold. Within a half dozen more moves, the computer now tightened the noose around the white citadel before exhausting all possible avenues of attack as white’s defenses could now neutralize any black offense. As the clock ticked down its last remaining seconds. The first match concluded in a draw—which felt like a dramatic defeat for the so-called Girl SuperGenius. But now… her unparalleled brain had learned even more knowledge from this heady experience and Candy’s powers subtly transformed accordingly.
As the competitors reversed colors for the second game, the vaunted StackTrout’s senros scanned its opponent again from up to down. Something about her had indeed changed. Her lips were plump, puffier and colored a darker red. The plastic planetoids pushing-out her chested had gained 13% in volume, her waist shrank nearly 1%... StackTrout began to calculate the objective value of its opponent.

StackTrout greedily gobbled up an early b-pawn and c-pawn, going up +2 in what looked like it would be able to convert into a winning position. Until Candy slid both of her rooks into battle incredibly early. Suddenly, StackTrout was giving back a pawn to try to keep its king alive. Then another pawn. Then a bishop. It was only logical. It had to keep the game going, and then it would be able to convert its material edge...

“The odds would be against you,” came StackTrout’s robotic, yet wavering voice. Large sweat drops were bursting off of its right and left upper edges. Springs were coming loose, bouncing and oscillating with both higher amplitude and frequency. It was sucking coolant from a gushing firehose now.
“Oh, and I’ll take the black pieces on every board. You can have time odds too,” Candy smiled.
“It will be... your loss...” Some clock faces appeared on its frame as well, minute and hour hands twirling by as its silicon chips were working beyond their limits.
A blindfolded Candy with her luscious backside turned to StackTrout won approximately half the games in a savage, one-sided beating. The remaining boards, StackTrout flagged on the clock. It had long since exploded into a melted pile of nuts, bolts, and the most expensive CPU and GPUs man had ever manufactured.
